lol....... it was the 4th module in the engine that gave way, this needed the engine to be removed, also this is due to !@#$!@#$ cheap labour in asian countries, even when everyone say that doesnt happen but it does...... not to mention that we have found used rags in and around the nacelles......

Re check Wheels

Landing clearances with a check wheels have been required by civil ATC's for a long time when providing landing clearances to Military Aircraft with retractable gear and civil aircraft that have had a distress phase called on them, such as a mayday call.

Ok, thanks for that. Perhaps it was a result of this incident, that brought about the 'check wheels' call by the tower?

Regardless of the number of engines, under ICAO procedures an engine fire requires a Mayday call. Once the fire is out you can downgrade it to a Pan.

Engine fire? Or engine failure? I don't believe there was a fire as such, although onlookers may believe that's what they saw when they saw the fireworks shooting out the back of the engine.

Also, it's interesting that the QF5 had so much more coverage than the QF1 out of BKK last week (same thing, though maybe the QF1's engine failure was slightly worse...)
