The regs are minimum standards only
Dead right. Unfortunately, "regulatory creep" is more backwards than forwards when CASA are only too happy to hand out exemptions to those minimum standards.:yuk:

I hope the yanks do hand out a downgrade. Might wake a few people up round here.

Edited to add: Just read the date on the report- Feb 2008!:hmm:

"Affordable Safety" is the worst combination of words in the entire world.
Its synonymous with cost&corner cutting.
I've seen my company (not one I own, one I work for) do things under the "affordable safety" umbrella that would make everyones, involved the industry, hair stand on end.
(Try watching an RPT Jet on the flair to one runway with an RPT Turbo on extremely short finals for the other end (right in the way of any go-around by the jet), just because company wouldnt ensure coverage/continuation in service and allowed it to go to uncontrolled aerodrome regularly).
And CASA have less backbone than a jellyfish, I highlighted the issues with them and they said the safety problem being highlighted was an internal issue (with the company) and nothing they (CASA) would do.
ISnt ensuring safety in the industry CASA's job as the regulator?????
:ugh:
