Jetstar to charge for ‘up front’ seats Item by australianaviation.com.au on December 21, 2009 8:18 pm photo - Andrew McLaughlin Jetstar has announced that it will give passengers travelling on Jetsaver or Jetsaver Light fares the option of selecting a seat in the first three rows of the aircraft for an additional charge. “The introduction of ‘Up Front Seating’ is in direct response to our customers who have been asking for this product as they like to sit close to the front of the plane with one of the benefits being that they can get in and out of our aircraft quicker,” said Jetstar’s executive manager commercial David Koczkar. The option will be available for Australian passengers at a charge of $5 per sector on domestic services and $15 per sector on international services across all aircraft in the fleet. On two class A330 services, Up Front Seating will be in the first three rows of economy class. pay to get off the plane quicker so you can spend longer waiting for your bags... |

one of the benefits being that they can get in and out of our aircraft quicker Air Asia has been doing this for some time now, charging to select a seat when you book. Seats up the front and emergency row exits are more expensive. Amazing how these LCC can make money out of nothing. :rolleyes: |
I've always wondered why the 'legacy' carriers don't try on some of these measures also. Burn extra FF miles, pay cash, whatever!

Who the hell cares whether you're in row #3 or #15-when you 're flying international-when you have to wait at Immigration and at the baggage carousel anyway. How low can this airline stoop for a few lousy bucks-and then have the gall to try and disguise it as good customer service.:yuk: |
Not new.
CX just did the same thing. Do you Want the extra legroom seats that were previously reserved for members or frequent flyers? No worries, pay extra dosh or part with 20,000 Asia Miles. This was introduced about 2 weeks back. |
Not sure what all the hurry to get off is all about on Jetstar flights actually.
Being containerised baggage everyone ends up waiting around the baggage carousel for ages anyway. I guess it would be OK for those with carry on bags only. MP |

If there is people dumb enough to do it, then why not? I think its a great idea! These companies are here to make money so it puts a couple of extra $$ in the bank it should be good for all.
In regard to the baggage maybe they will get a priority tag? |

How about a refund to all those pax who sit somewhat comfortably in their seats at destination whilst the unthinking mob leap immediately into the aisles to stand impatiently whilst the aerobridge is positioned and the doors opened.

Idiot pose = the weird contortion stance demonstrated by those not sitting in the aisle seat who feel the need to undo the buckle and stand up straight away. Thereby twisting the neck and trying to appear relaxed whilst looking like an absolute tool. Try watching it next time you "patiently" wait to get off the plane! |
Innovative management.Wow where did they learn that? Managers you say? Charge because the seats have extra legroom due to aircraft design and not due to a product as such. Charge charge for flint faced empty sculled 18 yearolds that really know what customer service is all about.
Just like the red seats at Big red. Pay for a supposed product and then find people siting beside you whilst waiting for the loo. Clever really no wonder they are always empty. More corks on the way no doubt to celebrate another euphemism or travesty to the whole concept of flying. |

Ryanair has been doing this for years...you pay an extra 4 or 5 pounds and get to board first...no seat allocation on Ryanair so you get to choose your seat if you pay for priority. Sorry to intrude on your thread, but some of you guys REALLY have to get out more:ugh: |
Virgin does it, as does Tiger, AirAsia, Ryanair, Easyjet and even some full service carriers do it.
So why not Jetstar? :hmm: |

As mentioned earlier Jetstar are merely taking advantage of a 'perceived' benefit that has been used by many airlines overseas already.
If they can sell it for whatever they can I have no problem. My own VB astounded me when they sold Premium Economy to Joe Public when JP was not even entitled to free water on board. NOTHING! Yep they paid for everything including the nickel and dime headsets as well as watching rows around them being converted back to normal economy to facilitate 3 passengers per row and 'economy' passengers being 'upgraded' to the 'Premium Economy' seat next to them. And for paying an extra couple of hundred bucks each way they had the privilege of boarding first and to be trampled by the next 179 punters and screaming kids. If Godfrey or his equivalent in Jetstar start marketing sand in the Middle East I will be one of their first investors. As an aside - just maybe these "Premium seats" will help keep the Staff Travel fares down..............Now I'm dreaming! |
What about the crew seats. An extra $20 to have the hostie sitting on your lap during take off and landing.

boys up the front will be doing the best to save their own backsides, i know i would be. i love it when passengers jump in my plane in the back saying its "safer". i just say the safest seat is mine, because its my arse thats on it and im going to be looking after it! :ok: but yeah paying for seats just to get off the plane quicker? no thanks not for me, my time isnt THAT precious! |

I would like to know whether the extra 'seat service' for your 'extra buck' also means these 'premium' seats receive an extra cleaning ?
Just for sh*ts and giggles, on your next flight I challenge the unitiated to reach with their hands down besides the seat cushions, and even under them if you can sneakily lift them up. You will find a huge amount of hair, food stuffs like lollies, gum, bits of bread crusts, gum, more hair, and the occasional dried out chunk of spew !! A further challenge would be to run an ultra violet light over the seats if the cabin lights were dimmed low enough, now that would reveal an interesting selection of secretions ! |

In response to airsupport,I have failed to add Full Service Carriers to the list, as well as the seats in Cinema's,buses,trains,taxi's,some restaurants,airports,frat houses,some 'men's establishments',and not to mention what is often found under and within the nooks and crannies of a teenagers bedroom.
