News info released today regarding transfers within the Qantas group. :ok:

Thanks to the AFAP, pilots will no longer have to wait three months if they want to transfer between Eastern/Sunstate and either Jetstar or Qantas.

As Rmcdonal pointed out, there wont be any transfers to Mainline until they start recruiting again.

But Jetstar are recruiting, and if you want to take up an offer with them, you wont have to wait at home for 90 days (like what happened in July to an EAA captain). There are also a few Qlink guys that want to transfer between Eastern/Sunnies. The Transmission of Business clauses prevented that; but now that avenue has reopened.


The FWA and the Transmission of Business clauses resulted in a significant hurdle for intra-group transfers. Having a section of federal legislation changed within 6 months of implementation (and without a test case to work with) is a pretty good effort, IMHO! :ok:

And this thanks to the AFAP! There was ZERO help from AIPA on this, as they considered it "Not their problem".

Seems to me, that the first effective move to improve Qantas group unity was done by the AFAP!

I think that's great news!! It is a great start, though I do want to see at least some sort of progressional career path for Qantaslink pilots. One can only keeps hoping!

Whilst the AFAP have definitely done a good job with this I think you'll find that AIPA weren't consulted or even notified of the application at the tribunal last Thursday.

I'm lead to believe that AIPA have been very proactive on the issue however but treading with a bit more caution to ensure the MOU between Jetstar and Qantas was protected also, not just for Qlink pilots to be able to go to mainline and Jetstar.

Having said that, the outcome is excellent and as you said, much more impressive given the time frame with no test case. Good news for all within the Qantas group!

this is the only thing the afap have done for pilots in this country for the past 10 years...

figures though...it had nothing to do with specific problems pilots face day to day with their respective management.

could Lawrie and co now pull their heads out of airline managers asses and help us day to day!!

And here lies the problem. AIPA's interest lies with Jetstar not QF Link, I think it is called sleeping with the enemy.

I thought the great news was not having to be a member to be in the MBF!

I am interested in why people think an entitlement to join the AAP MBF - which was set up by AFAP members for AFAP members and to encourage AFAP membership should be offered carte blanche to anyone who wants to take advantage of the very generous conditions that the MBF offers without being a member of the AFAP.

I don't expect to avail myself of the privileges of the Police union, the Teachers union, the BLF, AIPA, VIPA nor any other union because I am not a member of any of those entities.

Why is the AFAP singled out for offering conditions and privileges to only IT'S MEMBERS?

The AAP-MBF and the AFAP cop a lot of criticism about their direct links but that is how the fund is able to offer the conditions it does now - through long term commitment by a member.

I have been a member for over 25 years and cannot understand why the work and commitment and hard cold cash of a lot of AFAP members (myself included) should be diluted by the expectations of someone who can't even be bothered by joining the AFAP.


Gen Y attitudes of;

I want it now,
I am entitled to it now,
give it to me now

just don't quite fit.

And rightly so!

Become a member or don't complain.
