Onya Jetstar!

Qantas announced it flew less passengers and brought in less money on both domestic and international flights year on year in February.

The kangaroo carrier saw the number of seats filled by paying passengers (or revenue seat factor), drop to 78.4 per cent.

This is down from 80.6 per cent one year ago.

Total passenger numbers were off 8.4 per cent on year to 2.78 million.

However it's discount carrier Jetstar recorded a 2.8 per cent increase in paid seats on domestic flights and a massive 24.5 per cent jump in international passengers.

Statistics.

Benjamin Disraeli:
Lies,damn lies and statistics.
Those statistics quoted by the originator of this thread need to put in some form of mathematical, accounting and historical context before they really mean anything.
As quoted by the originator of the thread they mean squat.

nice to see that they gave a LOAD FACTOR for QF, but not for JQ.
Statistics are nice, when you have ALL the data!!!

Going Boeing 31st Mar 2009 10:37

Hasn't mentioned the number of routes (& consequently passengers) gifted by Qantas to Jetstar - especially International routes. Those statistics are totally useless!!!!!!!

QFinsider 31st Mar 2009 10:41

naturally

as we know J* is 30% cheaper...
of course they are.......

From Plane Talking - Ben Sandilands:

On domestic routes Jetstar also reported a low seat factor of 64.2%, meaning it has been on average (and mercifully given the miserable seat pitch) a much emptier flying experience than Qantas or Virgin Blue.

The statistics are public knowledge.

Go to the QF website and form your own conclusions

Heard the following bandied around the water cooler at work the other day.Could some JetStar people confirm or deny please.
Apparently there is a mass exodus of all the Senior Ansett Mates off the A330 back to the A320. Why would that be if JetStar International is going gangbusters?

Setting the record straight

From Plane Talking - Ben Sandilands

On domestic routes Jetstar also reported a seat factor of 78.9% in the month, not the 64.2% used in this post yesterday, which was a misreading of the table in which that figure belonged to Qantaslink. The Qantas domestic seat factor was 74.1%.

The watercooler must have had something in it.Just the reverse.Ex An checkies on 320 taking positions on the A330.No- one from the A330 going back to 320 except f/os for better base with base changes.:ugh:

Heard the new QF EBA over 700 pages [ no not at the water cooler]:D
The last QF/JQ cost comparison had the JQ A330 at around 42% less to operate than the QF machine. That is on the present EBA.Will be interesting to see the difference with the new document.Look around guys there is a new world out there, make sure your in it!!!!

I guess that's understandable when a large portion of your cabin crew are Thai based flight attendants being paid $8000 per year.

Muff Hunter 1st Apr 2009 21:12

not a large portion....all of them are thai/japanese/singapore

It's a pity that this seemingly endless quest to lower pay and conditions for airline employees hasn't extended to the board rooms and upper management.

In fact it would seem that the exact opposite is not only true but still taking place even in this latest economic mess....one in which could be argued is the direct result of some very greedy execs around the world and not the intransigence of the unions at all....

max autobrakes 1st Apr 2009 22:19

Different water cooler different conversation (must have been a JetStar water cooler 'cos I had to pay for the water), heard the Ansett Mates are seriously considering accepting "No contract and working for 100% less then Mainline in order to get all future Group flying":ok:

Wow ,that'll work!:ooh:

genex 1st Apr 2009 22:38

Would that be the other end of the spectrum from a conversation I heard round the Qantas water cooler (must have been Qantas coz it was gold plated)

"Lets keep pilot salaries 100% higher than the market rate to ensure we're OK and there's fewer jobs for the riff-raff"?

To paraphrase Marx "There's a spectre haunting Qantas, and it ain't JQ, its all the other LCCs"

Reeltime 1st Apr 2009 22:43

Look around guys there is a new world out there, make sure your in it!!!!
That statement proves the Dixon/Workchoices ideology has triumphed.

Here we have a pilot (insert engineer, flight attendant, office clerk etc) exhorting everyone else to get with the program, and work for less.

"I get paid less than you, for doing the same job" is now a boast made with pride.

Look what we've become.

breakfastburrito 1st Apr 2009 22:54

Well said Reeltime.

Care to include the JQ-Aus vs JQ-NZ comparison.

I think you may need to look over YOUR shoulder? Be careful what you wish for.

Ah, the executives are laughing all the way to the bank to cash in their bonuses... "Onya Jetstar...":ok:

Pass the Dom and caviar, oh and hand me another hundred dollar note so that I can light my cigar!

:ugh:

Jetbest you are a menace to society ! Aviators in this and many other 1st world countries have sweated blood to improve the working conditions of ALL aviators.
You have become nothing more than a management tool to erode these hard won gains, and you seem proud of it ! If you only had a vague notion of the effort many of the pilots I know put in to improving the welfare and conditions of the entire aviation community I think you may be surprised. Unfortunately you have succumbed to very simple yet effective management plot to divide the pilot community. You are nothing more than a pawn in the system. What you don't know would probably frighten you.
Perhaps you could utilise the half of your brain that clearly lies dormant to make a worthwhile contribution now that you have looked after number one !
