Layoffs at Network
 

More bad news for the industry as it is rumoured that Network Aviation will soon layoff crews.:(

Yep, they had a staff meeting today, some Braz crew and office staff to go. Some have already had the DCM call this evening.

Always unfortunate to see good people loose their jobs, especially quickly as it seems here.

LG and CH ran a good ship at Network, I hope those Braz crews get picked up soon.

Just got a call from a friend who is a Braz driver there, they find out Monday, heart goes out to you all!

Did they lose whole contracts or was it just a big reduction in the number of flights due to the economic slowdown????
When anybody has some accurate (not rumoured) info can they please post the numbers of Capt & FO laid off.

have heard this had a bit to do with it. Mate says all engineering jobs are safe and the F100 operation is safe but they may have to park a braz or two until things pick up again. Their new hangar is nearly complete and they are chasing third party work...





Windimurra jobs wound down

Several hundred jobs at the Windimurra vanadium mine development in Western Australia’s mid-west are being wound down after the appointment of administrators and receivers. The mine was set to start producing ferrovanadium this year but announced at the end of 2008 that it needed an extra $81 million for construction labour and fixed costs.
“There’s over 400 contractors on site, they’re being wound down and demobilised from the site because construction needs to be put on hold while this assessment occurs,” administrator Darren Weaver of Ferrier Hodgson said on Wednesday.
“Ultimately the decision is in the hands of the receivers.”
Korda Mentha receiver Brian McMaster said the mine would be placed on effective care and maintenance while contractors were redeployed.
The future of the company’s 50 workers was still uncertain.
“We’re just working through with them at the moment what the best course of action is and we’ve sort of agreed that...we’ll have a result by next week,” Mr McMaster said.
“Sixty contractors left yesterday, we’re thinking about 130 will come off today and then after that we’re down to a core of people who are more or less required to keep everything on care and maintenance.
“We’ll work through over the next couple of days whether any more of those need to come out or not.”
The company announced in its December quarter activities report that it had $71 million in cash at the end of 2008 but was taking steps to conserve cash.
However, its financial report for the same quarter stated cash reserves at quarter’s end totalled $114 million.
Mr Weaver said all options are still open and the mine may still be viable.
“We’re working pretty closely with the receivers to make sure that we can preserve all the recapitalisation options as one of the potential outcomes,” Mr Weaver said.
“Given that the project is 90 per cent complete...and given there is a defined amount of monies that need to be reinvested in order to complete it...there is an ability where a (recapitalisation) might work in this situation.
“The secured creditors are going to be very focused on their returns ... but there’s also a lot of interest in the project.
“At this stage I think that all the options are open.”

Good luck guys. Have a mate who's a captain there and even he was surprised at how quickly things went from bad to almost unbelievable. Said they should find out on Mon. :(

Here's hoping that this is a very short term need and that whoever is affected is put back on sooner rather than later. I reckon LE would hate this.

I am blown away at how quickly things have turned around...less than 12 months ago we didn't have enough crew to service all the flights, and now 7 people have lost their jobs. Regardless its sad to see this happen to a bunch of great guys and a good company that i really enjoyed working for and I hope that those affected will find employment elsewhere!!!!

I hope those that got laid off have luck somewhere else. Unfortunately, I don't think they will due to current circumstances. Hopefully they will be picked up by the bigger operators.

Mr. goblin, is that the same person I know?. Any idea of the result for that person?. Hope its a good result they worked pretty hard to get there. (as they all did I guess)

I would say so Wiz, damn shame considering the personal sacrifices one makes to get into a stable company like Network.

On the bright side, free Braz endorsement and becoming a free agent, Network will take them all back on again if they are still around when the work picks up.

I wonder how many will swallow their pride and have a yarn with B.O next door in the coming days!

I think I conceded in a previous post that I may have under-estimated the effect this may have on some areas...

Oh, righto... must have missed it. far reaching and by the look of it long too. :(

7 pilots to re train.... One would have thought that they could have sent pilots on leave or un paid leave etc. or at least cross hired their crews to skippers.

Sounds to me like seven pilots plus some ground staff too.

It is time to give everyone support and pay it forward, one day we may need a little help ourselves.
