For those of us without wide screens.

I appreciate that Danny has to make a buck so that he can continue to provide us with this playground but those adverts down the right side of the screen are driving me nuts. Think I'll have to get the D9 on the job ...

Besides - I've already got a flat stomach :)

ditto.........trouble is we are dealing with commercialism, do what I have done stick tape a piece of paper down the side of yr screen, works a treat !:ok:
Nice dozer btw:)

I *do* have a widescreen, and for the first time since I got it, PPRuNe looks balanced again!

Doctor Smith 17th Sep 2008 09:31

Dump the crappy IE. Get Firefox and install Adblock Plus and Flashblock.

No more ads and a full screen to boot!

Simple eh? :}

Fris B. Fairing 17th Sep 2008 10:18

Thanks Doc for the prescription.

I am using Firefox. Are you saying it takes Adblock Plus + Flashblock to match the power of the D9?

Do you bulk bill?

Rgds

Edit: I see they are both Firefox add-ons which means they are free. I'll take a gross.

Actually I tell a lie. I am currently trying Google Chrome but I guess it ain't gonna provide a means of blocking Google-Ads

UPPERLOBE 17th Sep 2008 10:24

Thankyou Dr Smith, only started using Firefox tonight this is a big bonus.

Not that it figures very high on my "care factor" scale but I think you will find that Danny sold PPRuNe to American interests late last year. Maybe the annoying ad's are a sign of that "ownership re-alignment".

Being stuck with a crappy dial up:ugh: internet connection here in PNG also means the page takes about 5 minutes to load because of all the non-pertinent fluff being loaded onto my 'puter by the website.

I may have to give the above suggestions a try.:D

tipsy

Keg 17th Sep 2008 11:56

Just remember that when you go to 'block ad' it will be the specific ad. If you delete the numbers, etc at the end of the url and just leave it with ads.google.com (or whatever it is) then it'll block all ads.

Capt Wally 17th Sep 2008 12:28

It's funny you know the more I see adds that annouy me (all do really) as in the case here with PPRUNE the more I go out of my way not to respond to them by way of buying. At times these pesty adds do themselves a diservice by raming down our thoats & we react accordingly.

If indeed PPRUNE has been sold to OS interests then all the more we ignore the trash adverts here.

Thanks Doc

The add-ons work a treat.

I must have missed the memo about the change of management. Now I don't feel so bad about resisting.

Anyone wanna buy a slightly used D9?

Led Zep 17th Sep 2008 12:53

Firefox and Adblock Plus gets the nod from me too.
If you're stuck on dialup tipsy2, you'll certainly notice the difference.

Angle of Attack 17th Sep 2008 14:59

I have a program add-on to firefox called No-script it blocks all sorts of things I have never seen an ad on pprune since I installed it a few years ago! It can be a bit annoying at first until it gets used to what sites to allow certain things and which to not but pretty quickly after that its perfect and pages load faster too!
:ok:

PS its also an extra defense against key logger trojans which use scripts to get into your PC

Ultralights 18th Sep 2008 07:20

i find not looking at the adds works pretty well also, no side effects either!

teresa green 18th Sep 2008 07:45

I want to know, WHY I only get the flat stomach one???? OK so I don't have that great body I used to have, well ok, so I could do with a couple of kilos off, but it is bad enough the quack has a go at me, without a pilots forum doing the same!:uhoh:

megle2 18th Sep 2008 08:35

I can't get the dozer to move forward / backwards or raise the blade.
I will just continue to ignore the ads.

GoGirl 18th Sep 2008 08:38

I'm not getting that here....woohoo!!

I am laughing at this thread though..... FrisB in particular...Does he bulk bill indeed! hahaha :D

Cheers

I have widescreen and barely even notice the ads, apart from the multitude of threads pointing them out!;)

Mr. Hat 18th Sep 2008 10:41

could be worse they could be "p:mad:s length ads"!.:ouch:

Tidbinbilla 18th Sep 2008 10:57

could be worse they could be "phttp://static.pprune.org/images/smilies/censored.gifs length ads"!.
Indeed! That would mean one would need a "long" screen, as opposed to Fris B's "wide" screen, no? :}

So what is the answer? Long and thin slips it in, or short and thick does the trick?:E

Over to you.
