QF Long Haul Cabin Crew Voluntary Redundacy

Although oil prices are on the way down demand for travel is softening.
Qantas is currently reviewing its entire operation.
It has already identified "a surplus to requirements number of LH CC".
This is another opportunity for the company to remove those CC from its payroll that it deems as expensive.
The current economic climate will more than likely cause many crew to resist this tempting offer.
Most likely announced in the next few weeks redundancies would become effective in either November or early 2009.
A couple of CC middle management are also likely to be shown the door due to poor performance.

Mmmmm.

"Filthy" will no doubt be pleased as with others who have worked with him of late.:ok:

But I for one will be very sad to see so many of the old guard go.

People of the caliber of "Mr Chardonnay" will never be replaced.

Those I speak to who fly [paid] in the pointy end won't be happy either.:(

stubby jumbo 8th Aug 2008 12:29

......'apparently 2 of the CCM/Visitors have been punted ( and not before time) back to where they belong as "ushers" at the Opera House.

All of these incompetents have done their time.!!!!

This Mark Hassell inspired -CREW CONNECT experiment has been an abject failure from Day #1.

GOOD RIDDANCE............DOPES:*

Voluntary Redundancy

Could anyone please explain the two types of Redundancy that QF has offered in the past ie VR and VCR, which type the next one will be and will it be both long & short haul crews. Any info greatly appreciated.

Whenwe 12th Aug 2008 10:52

I would rather fly via the sandpit than on QF direct to SYD. You have the most illmannered cabin crew that I have ever come accross, even worse than SAA. Confirmed as recently as 2 weeks ago.
I hope those are the ones that go first.

speedbirdhouse 12th Aug 2008 12:51

Mmmmm......

A Yarpie pontificating about manners

Ka.Boom 12th Aug 2008 12:56

JNB QF Crews...Thread Drift

The newest and most junior crew are usually those on the QF 63/64 to and from JNB

speedbirdhouse 12th Aug 2008 13:12

Correction.

Always.........

I have found in life that one does, more often than not, get what one pays for...........

There are a number of American Companies that have tried the brilliant and obvious business strategy of getting rid of experienced (and slightly more expensive) customer service staff and replacing them with newbies..

I know of two who are now in, or close to, administration after there was a mass exodus of customers in response to non existent, or poor, customer service.

One is Circuit City:

How Circuit City Committed Suicide
Posted by Joel Johnson, December 30, 2007 4:22 AM | permalink

From Prospect.org's Beat the Press, summarizing this piece from the Washington Post:

The basic story is that last March, the wise men who run Circuit City came up with the brilliant idea of laying off their more senior salespeople, who get $14-$15 an hour, and replacing them with new hires who get around $9 an hour. It turns out that this move was not very good for business. One of the reasons that people go to a store like Circuit City, rather than buying things on the Internet, is that they want to be able to talk to a knowledgeable salesperson. Since Circuit City had laid off their knowledgeable salespeople, there was little reason to shop there. ... The Post reports that Circuit City's executive vice-presidents will get retention awards of $1 million each.

The good news is that this will now kill the company, preventing it from happening again; the bad news is that these executives will probably get new jobs at a new company instead of being rousted from their beds by out-of-work salespeople and perforated by pitchfork.
The other is West Marine, that owns 300+ boating stores across America.

But there is the "meta message" (the message management sends when it doesn't think it is sending a message) that such action sends that actually makes matters worse.

And that message is "Your experience is valueless. We pay no premium for experience. Our customers aren't entitled to any service anyway. Anyone can do your job with little or no training. Go away, you annoying, insignificant, little thing."

The old boilers couldn't have been nicer in a number of difficult situations I've seen with drunks, late arrivals and suchlike.

Jabawocky 12th Aug 2008 23:27

I would rather have an articulate oldie who actually enjoys their job than a 23 yr old who is more interested in bitchy gossip in the galley.

They just need to weed out the old and new noxious weeds.....throughout the entire company!

J:ok:

Anybody want to offer me that job?

Ka.Boom 12th Aug 2008 23:41

Gen Y...Be Afraid

Gen Y is now entering the workforce....they are not customer service oriented....but....Qantas is employing them in spades.
When the "oldies"leave and are totally replaced then pax will really have something to complain about

crosscutter 13th Aug 2008 02:13

I suppose it would be better to employ the long line of baby boomers lining up for the job then?

Coming from the "generation" who sold the juniors out?? Sounds very 'what's in it for me'. Remind me who Gen Y is again. :ugh:

As for service quality.........person dependant i say.

argus.moon 13th Aug 2008 05:32

What about....

Those who are in their late twenties and early thirties.
Those that have some life experience and skills
A nineteen year old who kinows everything because they read it in a book.
A ninteen year old who is only going to be around for a few years and really doesnt give a toss.
A no brainer if you want service ,loyalty and a work ethic.

DEFCON4 14th Aug 2008 06:30

Overpaid?

The Average Australian Wage is now $58388.40.
This about what a 20 year Qantas flight attendant receives.
QAL CC are therefore not overpaid according to the ABS.
QCCA are,however,grossly underpaid.
According to Dixon QAL CC are expensive.
They receive an average Australian wage BUT are expensive.
The only person at QF who is bloody expensive is bloody Dixon.

mrpaxing 14th Aug 2008 06:38

i dont think

there are many who disagree with your assessment,defcon4, but why did you as union official sell out the QCA so cheaply?
incoming:eek::oh:

Machinegun Fellatio 14th Aug 2008 08:44

Union Official

Defcon4 was an official in the early nineties.
Still keeps a finger on the pulse.
Had nothing to do with the last EBA except for voting like any other FAAA member

lowerlobe 14th Aug 2008 21:53

The majority of people who post on PPrune allow themselves a veil of anonymity......

Why then do I get the impression that a number of people who post on Cabin Crew matters are in some way directly linked to the union and that they know each others identity?

Machinegun.....Are you Defcon's pa or something?

As has just been said....incoming:eek:

argusmoon 15th Aug 2008 01:48

Lobey...

You are impressionable.
People tell each other about this forum.Ergo there will people on here that know each other.
You love a good conspiracy theory.
Dixon has never missed an opportunity to dismiss staff...911,Sars,oilprice ..you name it he uses it.
This current round of redundancies is a perfect example.
Mind you some of the people who will go/have gone should never have been employed in the first place....the four visitors.
Group General Manager is an other person who has ouststayed their welcome.
Next stop for them ....retirement

lowerlobe 15th Aug 2008 03:35

Argusmoon...No arguments about the office dwellers and I hope they get a taste of their own medicine but as far as a conspiracy theory goes ....

I don't think it's a surprise that the union has it's own spin doctors as well as the company and that the boys in the bunker use PPrune as a media outlet.....No conspiracy there......just an observation....:oh:

I agree with you about impending change of scenery in the office and to be honest that usually happens whenever the job at the top changes as well...
