QF back to NGO/KIX for Jet*

Latest intel is QF to do KIX & NGO in 767's under Jet* callsigns:ooh:

Bug Smasher Smasher 13th Apr 2008 12:05

Cpt Cloudbuster: you sure it'll be under JQ callsigns?

Seems kinda pointless: QF jets in QF livery flown by QF drivers with QF cabin crew.

The whole reason is the Japanese punters are very adverse to flying JQ due to the fact it's a low cost carrier which they deem to be a vastly inferior product. JQ's been trying desperately to promote the fact that they are a QF Group Airline and therefore every bit as good as QF Mainline. :hmm: It's all been to no avail though as the JTB is regularly putting Japanese tourists from all over the country on trains to NRT to fly QF rather than "subject" them to JQ.

Looks as though the full-strength QF'll be heading back to these two ports but this remains to be confirmed. Keep in mind QF's 5 year plan that changes every 5 days....

TurbTool 13th Apr 2008 13:08

And I thought it was simply because the J* 330s were undergoing heavy maintenance one at a time. Silly me.:}

concernaviat 13th Apr 2008 15:15

Perhaps keeping a JQ callsign enables them to avoid having to re-apply for approvals through IASC and their Japanese equivalent?

newsensation 13th Apr 2008 22:21

That is so true!

019360 13th Apr 2008 23:33

And yet TurbTool has it in one. C checks (and 787 delay) is the one and only reason.

Low cost, high density ops are not unknown in Japan at all. Quite the opposite. People are quite capable of making a value/cost trade-off in Japan just like anywhere else.

mmmbop 14th Apr 2008 00:08

019360,

Oh yes the japanese have been sound at evaluating J* into NGO & KIX. They have been doing it with their feet - running in the opposite direction to a Jet* flight. How many services does 1* operate there now? I hear loads are REALLy good too.....

What this does is allow GD to blame Mainline for pulling out of the cities instead of it being a Geoffstar failure.

Come on guys, surely Management are smart enough to understand that international operations under the brand name Qantas Jetstar will probably allow them to have their cake and eat it at the same time? :uhoh:

Nuthinondaclock 14th Apr 2008 00:52

This news was stated at recent crew briefings by QF flt ops management. As of a week ago it hadn't been positively 'locked in' but it's only bought about because Jet* are short on aircraft. Hate to spoil a good feeding frenzy

Oldmate 14th Apr 2008 01:19

So I take it QF just have plenty of spare jets sitting around doing nothing ready to bail jetstar out at a moments notice?

I'm Driving 14th Apr 2008 02:18

"it's only bought about because Jet* are short on aircraft."

And Qantas isn't?

I just don't see this happening. We don't have the aircraft, let alone the crews.
Just like Qantas operating Jet* A330's, We are having trouble crewing ours.

roamingwolf 14th Apr 2008 02:35

The company spent a lot of money and time telling and showing us how important the Japanese market was.
They told is that presentation was all important in Japanese life and it doesn't matter if thats food or anything.
so what does darth do about that.
He presents the Japanese market with a lcc.
This has nothing to do with presentation it's all about a lower cost base and the Japanese don't like that.

They weren't rapt when we were operating a code share because they were expecting Japanese cc not us.we were even told not to wear short sleeve shirts because the Japanese were put off by hairy arms that we have.
did onestar crew have long sleeve t-shirts?
Nah.
Presentation to them is everything and onestar is not that.
maybe and it's a long shot if there was a onestar base in Japan with all Japanese cc it might work but not a lcc with whities in short sleeve shirts.

The Japanese like foreign legacy carriers but not foreign lcc's but the ngo pax are different to nrt pax so maybe a base up there would do the trick.

Nuthinondaclock 14th Apr 2008 03:23

Just passing on exactly what I heard from the mouth of the Fleet Manager of the 767. Sounds crazy to me but that's what he said.

Capt_SNAFU 14th Apr 2008 22:55

The 767 is still a great aircraft for int ops NOT. QF management are treating the paying high yield segement of the business with contempt. Put clapped out 767s that don't even have individual videos or Skybeds on long haul ops up against 777, A340s, A330s etc whilst J* is given access to newer far more able aircraft with which to serve the low end of the market. How does this make sense?

Lack of things arriving on time does not excuse why the LCC gets the brand new jets (A330 or 787 when it arrives) whilst the most important customers i.e the high yield business class pax are forced to fly on 767s.

Jabawocky 15th Apr 2008 01:01

Be better served on the Sydney to Perth Run, and pension off the even more clapped out 743's!

Wingspar 15th Apr 2008 02:23

Exactly Captain Snaf!

Why are the premium pax with the better yield not getting the latest aircraft?

Not exactly the model consumer orientated business is it?

I think shareholders should be asking the question but institutional investors rule and they're happy if the bucks keep coming in!

lowerlobe 15th Apr 2008 03:44

Not exactly the model consumer orientated business is it?
Very similar to the banks where if you are a customer you are better off closing your accounts and buying shares in the same bank.

That way you have a better chance of the bank listening to you.....

I don't think Darth is terribly concerned with the customer and that he probably thinks they are incidental to the operation of the business.

packrat 15th Apr 2008 11:24

Never Ever...

...has the Japanese Market been provided with good equipment by Qantas....til now
The classics went up there for years....... and broke down up there for years.
The A330s have been well received...into and out of NRT.
The high yielding prolific travelling Japanese have been mistreated by Qantas for years.
Running Jet * into the place is even more insulting.
Putting lamb on the menu for Y/C indicates just how out of touch Qantas is.
Scrotum Face...hear this...Japanese people do NOT like lamb...Wakata?
With the Japanese presentation is everything.
Qantas fails miserably in this regard.
Qantas wonders why the market is declining...The exchange rate is only part of the picture...Marketing Numbskulls!!!!

Who said mainline are getting any 787s

lowerlobe 16th Apr 2008 05:25

Who said mainline are getting any 787s
L/H Cabin Crew have signed an EBA that guarantee's them operating the dreamliner.

In that way I can't see the company operating QF L/H cabin Crew and J* tech crew or any other tech crew on the same aircraft.....
