I participated in the other thread about O'Connor and saw no mention there of the AOC being sold or propositioned and in fact Sam Davies of McGrathNicol said it would not be sold as a going concern.
Are you just guessing Mr Hughes or is there an offer for the AOC and if so by whom perhaps ? I gather some of the J.32EPs are pretty much in need of maintenance, so is Aero Pelican scavenging aircraft ? Why would the flying duck want another J.32EP AOC ? |
I spoke to them yesterday about it...
there was no group out that that wanted to buy the hole thing from top to bottom as an ongoing concern. The american mob was just a rumour they told me. there are a total of 4 companies for sale. they are now concentrating on selling just the assets. The shell of the company may be sold with an AOC after everything else has been sold but then.... will CASA allow it to continue.. the AOC cant be transfered so if you are to sell it you have to sell the company also. The AOC is only worth what someone is going to pay for it. If you ask me it is a liability because with CASA threatening to take it off you all the time .... you could lose it in a flash. i tell ya if i knew what they were after for the on going oncern i'd consider putting in an offer |

thats according to the admistrator as of yesterday afternoon. I really dont know if or when it will become available. Either way.... it is only be for JS32's and 441 (?) for RPT... too hard adding another to it. Idont know whats on it for charter. |

This is very sad, I just saw this today. I worked with Leigh and the O'Connor family when the J-32's were first brought on line in 1997. As an American I felt they truly showed the Aussie hospitality I had always heard about. I have the highest regard for Leigh and his family. I will never forget the time I spent with O'Connor, my thoughts are with Leigh, his family, O'Connor employees and the Aussie aviation community.

It would be interesting to see if Aeropelican actually buy the AOC due to the fact that they can conduct checks for pilots....... Then you have the Karratha guys who want to operate 19seaters and I heard that Tasmania have got the ex Maroomba BAe 31 I also heard of a rumour on two operators out of Brisbane and accross the tasman sea looking at BAe 32EP's........... I should think its going to be very interesting! |
an opportunity maybe?
Merry Christmas everyone first of all :)
I am wondering whether there isn't a business opportunity here? It seems that with some sound business acumen and a bit of industry expertise, a bunch of forward thinking aviators could take parts or all of such a failed business (or for that matter, buy out one of the other ailing smaller operations mentioned) and build something that makes a buck or two in due time?! It seems that despite the obvious cost and other pressures that plague the industry, there is still a good business case for many operators and routes, and I am (naively?) optimistic that price elasticity may be better than some think.. Some interesting observations here (e.g. the use of flexible ticketing systems) point to the fact that there may be quite a bit of room for improvement at some operations.. Bringing an underperformer up to snuff in an otherwise globally expanding aviation market, in the midst of a buyoant national economy, doesn't sound impossible. Am I being too optimistic, naive, or just right? :} Bring it on! Constructive criticism invited, genuine interest to talk more: PM me :) |
i was thinking the same.
I sent in a DOCA proposal on the Monday after the announcment was made to liquidate it but it was flat out regected because the Administrators thought it was possible to keep it running but having said that i think if we submitted it 2 days earlier i think it would have been approved because we were the only mob willing to take the whole thing. What are the Receivers doing with the assets? There were at least two Jetstreams that were in service at time of collapse and presumably a large amount of spares. Has the stock been auctioned or a buyer found?
