Tiger v. Virgin

Rumours in FNQ,

Will Tiger fly between Townsville and Darwin, finally linking Australia's two biggest military towns together??

And will Virgin Blue compete agaisnt Tiger on the same route using one of their new E170s??

Cactus Jak 1st Sep 2007 08:13

Don't know about any of that but it will be an interesting cat fight when Virgin put their jungle jets on the Melbourne - Alice runs.

Anyone know exactly when the Jungle jets are due to arrive at DJ?

Trashed Aviator 1st Sep 2007 19:49

Actually its 92K for a Captain , and you can buy your own endorsement .
Each to their own.

Due this month I believe. First trips will be October and has been discussed somewhere else on this board. New routes not expected till Feb next year.

mr.tos 1st Sep 2007 21:06

Tiger would have to pay more than 92k for a captain? Wouldn't expect them to pay 240k for a captain though. Somewhere in between.

Gordon Schumway 3rd Sep 2007 00:12

Tiger propose - $119k as a base + $73/hr up to 1000 hrs

Wizofoz 3rd Sep 2007 00:19

Not nearly enough to entice me from here to there!

Buster Hyman 3rd Sep 2007 23:45

That DJ E-170...it's got a silver bottom! (Where the APU exhaust is) And the Virgin logo on the tail, does that look kosher???

Flugzeugmechaniker 4th Sep 2007 02:35

I am of thinking that is new to be Virgin logo:)

sinala1 4th Sep 2007 03:18

The Virgin Logo on the EMB's will be the updated version of the current Virgin logo. This updated version is being introduced across the entire Virgin Group of companies - its already part of the new Virgin Atlantic livery, and also the Virgin America livery. :ok:

Buster Hyman 4th Sep 2007 04:21

Hey, there you go! I wasn't being a dill after all! (for a change)

See, the things you learn when you're not a pilot on a pilots website!:ok:;)

Howard Hughes 4th Sep 2007 06:25

Shouldn't you be on the wannabee ATCers forum or something...;)

Buster Hyman 4th Sep 2007 06:28

No, I have another name for entries there...Buster just scares them!;)

Bula 4th Sep 2007 08:32

They still need to find Trainers and Checkers... whcih from what I hear the current offer doesn't come anywhere near current market rates..... interesting times

I done a bit of calculating

Asuming above figures are correct and you average 999 hours that works out to about AUS$10400 per month after tax. Your refund might be about 4-5 grand if your luckey.

On 240K your looking at $12600 per month net. Bit better but hardly an incentive to move from a hi-paying lo-tax job OS and I heard Tiger wont provide any fringe benefits at all like transport (but thatd be taxed to the hilt anyway).

Then you have to put up with ASIC, rent or morgage out of your own pocket, super tax, etc.

I dont think theyll get any Dragonair drivers - even the FOs are on a better wicket.
