JQ A320 to operate SYD - BNE service

Just been released that JQ Domestic will operate SYD - BNE from DEC 4th 2007

Jetstar to launch Sydney – Brisbane services
Special launch web fares from AUD $39 at Jetstar.com

Australia’s low fares airline Jetstar is to expand onto the nation’s second largest domestic market from 4 December 2007 operating double daily return flights between Sydney and Brisbane.

Jetstar’s domestic entry on the Sydney-Brisbane route, which currently carries over 3.8 million passengers each year, will complement Qantas’ existing high levels of frequencies on the route.

The new services are supported by Jetstar’s introduction of 9 additional Airbus A320s into its existing narrow body fleet of 24 aircraft between December this year and March 2009 that will underpin the value based carrier’s next growth phase in the Australian domestic market.

Special web fares on Jetstar’s newest point to point Sydney-Brisbane route are now available at Jetstar.com from AUD $39 one way.

The fare special is available at Jetstar.com from midnight (00:01) Saturday 23 June 2007 to midday (12:00) Monday 25 June 2007 unless seats sell out prior. The special fare offer is for travel over two periods: 4 December – 13 December 2007 and 22 January – 13 March 2008. Conditions apply.

Jetstar will continue to market a daily A330-200 morning service operating one way only between Brisbane and Sydney, as one leg of its daily Jetstar International Sydney-Osaka-Brisbane service.

Jetstar Chief Executive Officer Alan Joyce said the new domestic route would allow for continued expansion of its domestic footprint with its 177 seat A320s into a strong and growing air market.

“By commencing double daily Sydney-Brisbane services from 4 December, these will complement the Qantas Group’s existing strong position on the route by another 700 daily seats,” Mr Joyce said.

“The Sydney – Brisbane route will become Jetstar’s 43rd domestic market as the airline continues to expand its Australian flying network now consisting of over 1000 weekly frequencies.

“Jetstar in its own right will connect Australia’s three largest state capitals of Sydney, Melbourne and Brisbane - achieved in Melbourne through either of our two airport operations - at Melbourne Airport and Melbourne Avalon Airport.”

This week Jetstar also unveiled more A320 services to the Gold Coast commencing 22 December 2007 including an extra two daily return services between Melbourne-Gold Coast and an additional Sydney – Gold Coast daily return service.

Jetstar’s additional Gold Coast flights will expand its overall domestic operations in this market to 128 weekly return flights by Christmas.

It will be a slow process but you can be assured that the end is neigh for QF. See you on the dark side.. Or just go along for the ride and smile.

Or you will just see JQ take over *all* of qf's sectors, and then get rebranded back as QF on a lower cost basis, with the "Oh we feel that in today's market the Budget model wasnt totally suited to australia, and with Qantas being synonymous with Australia etc etc we felt that expanding the Qantas brand again was the way forward" spin from the doctors

Now I'm no Jetstar fan, but these flight times are outside the peak times where QF would make it cash. I haven't looked, but has the QF schedule lost 2 flights to SYD at the same time as the Jetstar ones.

I do think this is the thin edge of the wedge though, first it will be 2 flights a day, then weekends and then where does it end.

mrpaxing 23rd Jun 2007 02:03

there is more

to it. since the osaka flight is from the international terminal in bne where does the flight to syd leave from? domestic or international? if they have to transfer the aircraft between terminals after each domestic/international leg i can see a few delayed flights coming through:rolleyes:

rammel 23rd Jun 2007 02:09

The aircraft is at the Int terminal. It operates the same as when QF carries pax between say SYD - MEL for example. You check in at the Int check in and get a D sticker on your boarding pass. Then clear customs at the other end going through the D lane.

fender 23rd Jun 2007 03:46

IS it during this time that the International Pax hands over the drugs to the domestic pax.. The whole system is a joke.

flitegirl 23rd Jun 2007 04:05

fender
This "system" has been happening for years on many international inbounds, eg:

NRT/SYD/MEL
SIN/DRW/ADL
LAX/MEL/SYD
DPS/MEL/SYD
MNL/BNE/SYD
NRT/CNS/SYD
SIN/ADL/SYD

I'm sure the Australian Customs experts are pretty aware and in control of the situation.

Dear roaming Wolf, I'm a homophobe. TID Edit

I'm going to take a little time off to ponder my future before name calling.

his gay what?

PattyStacker 23rd Jun 2007 13:33

The flight is from DOM terminal to DOM terminal.. It is not an add on to an international service.... DOM crews will operate it

I think you'll find that business travellers fly early morning and late afternoon between bne/syn/mel. The introduction of Jet* services late morning/early afternoon, when yields are lower makes sense.
