Skywest

As was said on a previous thread - Skywest are recruiting Internationally (Flight International) for Contract F100 Pilots. I'm considering applying and would appreciate any feedback from crew currently working there?

Ta:ok:

Warped Wings 2nd Apr 2007 21:30

See here for current pilot agreement

Given the maximum period of employment for contract pilots is 6 months, I'm guessing they would struggle to find anyone interested?

A320's still on the way? Skywest pilots to fly them?

cunninglinguist 2nd Apr 2007 22:47

According to Dijon Mustard, A320s to start flying in Skywest colours as of November 06, or was that 07, 08, 09 :}
With Tiger on the way, it must be looking even more plausible now.

With Tiger CEO Tony Davis on the Board of Advent Air (Skywest's owner) I would be surprised if there are not some expansion plans for Skywest.
Advent's website seems to point towards expansion
http://www.advent.com.sg/
With the right backing, Impulse was turned into Jetstar. Why couldn't the same happen to Skywest?

cunninglinguist 3rd Apr 2007 04:50

.........because Skywest is'nt owned by the airline that has 65% of Aussie traffic ?
Not to say that Skywest won't expand, just dont think they will operate 320s anytime soon.

Thanks...

Thanks WWings - very informative. That looks like a well written agreement..

Anyway - very grateful for the information - Many Thanks :ok:

I really hope that Skywest does expand for the sake of the company and everyone in it. I don't understand though why a CEO of Tiger, who is on the Board of Advent, would encourage compitition by any expansion of Skywest   .

Stick Pusher 4th Apr 2007 05:10

Tiger would be looking at different markets and is a totally different product and model to XR...:ok:

New Hires

Are new hires at Skywest put on the F50 or F100 when they start?
If it is the F50 how long before they let you play with the jet?

flylittlebirdie 27th Apr 2007 05:48

I just got a call from them asking if i was interested in coming in for an interview. Not sure what aircraft they are hiring for. Things are moving along.

Skystar320 27th Apr 2007 06:50

Fokker 50 from what i heard unless you have prior experiance on F100's!

LooseSeal 27th Apr 2007 11:06

Direct Entry F100 F/O's are causing a bit of a seniority ruckus:=

Capn Bloggs 27th Apr 2007 12:25

What's the alternative? Don't fly the jets because there are no suitable crews? I don't think so. Be gentlemen about it and organise bypass pay or hold the DE F100 FOs there until their seniority comes up for a F50 or F100 command. Simple.

Jet_A_Knight 27th Apr 2007 16:47

Or drop the Year 12 subjects requirements.

cunninglinguist 28th Apr 2007 03:56

Dont be bluddy ridiculous Jet A, you cant fly a jet if you don't have year 12.....what is wrong with you man ;)

bentandtwisted 28th Apr 2007 04:06

The HSC requirement is ridiculous:ugh: , you can fly big red or silver jets without a HSC, but to fly a Fokker 50 you need it:confused: .

I applied last year when they advertised in the national press, I exceeded all their hour requirements (8000+ TT, 6000 Multi, 4000 Turboprop, Check and Training), but no HSC so I never heard back.

R.Cruizo 28th Apr 2007 04:17

The interview was a bit long winded too. A CRM exercise, personal interview, tech interview, sim ride, general knowledge exam, then a met/flightplanning exercise. They still wonder why people don't re apply?

CoffeeButton 28th Apr 2007 04:43

Looking for both F50 and F100 pilots. Dont need F100 time for direct entry on the jet, but will need considerable turbo prop time. I would not worry too much about CRM exercise. From what I have been told not much weight is put on it.

Latest word around the airport is that XR want another 2 F50's and another 6 F100's. The latest D/E F100 F/O's did not cause a stink. Only ONE F50 F/O was pissed off, and he was not even checked to line!

Jet_A_Knight 28th Apr 2007 08:41

what is wrong with you man
I only have expertise in my chosen fields.

Unfortunately, high school wasn't one of them!

BTW Eastern has the same requirement. I wonder how many suitable crew who have been beating around their (EAA) area of operations and network but are 'not suitable' for want of a HSC.:hmm:

alidad 28th Apr 2007 09:34

The first year of high school was the best 5 years of my life..................:E
