Even the Fisho's are slagging JetStar

Poor old JetStar. Even the Fishing journo's are now sinking the boot in .
A mate just gave me a copy of the latest issue of Blue Water Boats and Sportfishing (Aug/Sept 06) and said to read the column on page 28.

Shortcuts for jet-setting anglers.

The bit of interest is :

"Even with all the best expectations there are some carriers that are a nightmare to travel with.
In my experience, one of them is Jet Star, the budget subsidary of Qantas. They have charged me for every gram of excess I've had.
They've offloaded anything that was oversized, and have zealously enforced their 7kg limit on hand luggage. Even when I had a camera case that weighed 7.2kg I was asked to remove one of the items. I've flown with them four or five times, sometimes the flights were cancelled with no warning, and often others were delayed so I've missed the next connection. And all of their sizes and weights are smaller than any other airline you're likely to travel on. One of the check-in assistants noted that I was a journalist and said I should let people know the score. So there you have it."

Sounds like another satisfied customer to me. ;)

20Kg Checked in is a standard economy sized baggage allowance.
7Kg restriction for carry on luggage is a CASA requirement.

All you well informed PPRuNe'rs should know this.

With regards to the excess baggage, well it's clearly stated when you book the ticket. (not just in the fine print of the Terms and Conditions)

Blah, blah, blah it's the same old tired story we've heard before.

QFinsider 16th Jul 2006 14:25

Might be a tired old story, but they are being repeated all over, just listen...

Better still trot over to London and see the trainsmash called Ryanair.....:E

AerocatS2A 16th Jul 2006 17:48

Yeah, give me my 32kg allowance with Qantas anyday!

qcc2 16th Jul 2006 22:39

geoff on J*

he always gets an earfull when he travels the red rat. so i cant see him travelling on J* as there is no seat allocation. can you see GD lining up and fight for a seat?:ugh: BTW BA has just increased their incabin baggage to 1 bag & 1 briefcase, no weight restrictions. its going to be fun on those codeshare flights.

geoff on Jet*

Id like to see that!!!

I've flown with them four or five times, ............
then they must be doing something right for you Mr Journo :ok:

Fox3snapshot 17th Jul 2006 02:34

Shockers..........

Yup, welcome to the world of budget!

Worst thing is for the average punter (i.e the Northern Territorian) you will not have any choice. QF mainline will pull out and you will have to pay to use the latrines on this shady outfit.

And yes...I expect to get banned again!

:hmm:

Enema Bandit's Dad 17th Jul 2006 08:26

Two dildo's and a set of joy balls. ;)

Pass-A-Frozo 17th Jul 2006 08:26

Sheez.. everyone knows they build fat into those figures..

Next you'll be saying you can't safely overspeed an airframe, flap or landing gear. :E :E

I can't believe Jetstar aren't commercially exploiting engineering safety margins!

max autobrakes 17th Jul 2006 13:07

What if the capt is a "fat git". Does that mean I've got to pack less???? :O

Keg 17th Jul 2006 13:26

I noticed that J* copped a bagging tonight on the news after cancelling a flight last night due to fog and thus stranding a bunch of kids from some footy team. The response from J* was.....'people should make contingencies for the weather'. So should airlines and if you cancel a flight because of it, put the punters up for the night! :ugh:

JetStar Press Release:
You only get what you pay for. :bored:

ferris 17th Jul 2006 14:41

Trouble is, it's not what you pay for that is upsetting.

airbusthreetwenty et al
I am not complaining about the strict check-in policies etc. All good, as far I'm concerned. It's on the ticket, and you get what you pay for blah blah blah.
What pisses people off is when you abide by all the strictness etc, then your Melbourne - Cairns flight sits on the ground for 45 min while passengers (from another flight that has gone U/S) straggle in, then your flight is suddenly a MEL-Maroochy-sit on the ground there for an hour-CS flight! No free drinks, nothing except for a "we apologise for the 2 hour delay" routine. Now, if I rock up a bit late and try the "I apologise for the delay" with my best smile, they tell me "too bad, your ticket is cancelled, please buy another" as they are perfectly entitled to do. But to not even offer free food/drinks on the 'minor detour' (which must've saved them ****loads) is just unmitigated gall.

A one way street. Or dirt road, but that's another story....

pakeha-boy 17th Jul 2006 18:27

..Baggage and its actual weight has always been a joke......and so have the weights fo some of the tubbies that get on board...weve all seen it....your "average" weight ...have you seen some of the buffalows that get on board.....we carry 20 seat belt extenders on our aircraft...what does that tell you????

The big problem is that carry-ons are not all weighed and the rules are not always uniformly administered....Ive seen inflight play "favourites" with certain passengers and then rake others over the embers

What happened to the days when flying the C-207,you loaded everything you possibly could into ol girl...and weight and balance was.....when the pilot sat in his/her seat...as long as the tail came off the ground you were good to go;) ...PB

Aussie

cunninglinguist 18th Jul 2006 02:38

Hey QFinsider, correct me if I'm wrong but that " trainsmash " is very profitable and has a fleet that would dwarf QF dom ( 100 inc to 238 in next 6 years )..............can't be doing too much wrong

Dynasty Trash Hauler 18th Jul 2006 05:23

Keg,

From where I come from (US) no airline would pay for accomodation after a cancellation due weather.

Eagleman 18th Jul 2006 06:01

JQ position is very clear. Gerry Foookem, ex Ryanair, now COO JQ is quite satified with the company's response. They knew what they were getting into when they brought their tickets, so "foookem".

If you get poor service, use the latest saying doing the rounds "don't jetstar me"!
