Unless this is a wind up from Buster and of course in here you never know .....by process of elimination I thought I would give American Samoa a shot

....but maybe you could call Hawaii the "ALOHA STATE"......but I admit that is stretching it a bit....

Buster Hyman 28th May 2006 00:37

Absolutely a wind up!:ok: You chaps are far to clever by half for me. :)

I did mean Australia, however American Samoa is an excellent answer & I wish I'd thought of it. Besides, like Oz, it might as well be a State!

Reference the current work to extend RWY 17/35 at YSCB.........

Who pays for this ?? Snowy and the boys at Canberra Intl Airport ??

And if so...... why ? Whats in it for them ??

Lasiorhinus 28th May 2006 13:39

That will be quite an extension if they plan to extend RWY 25 at Canberra......

If he was flying in a Cessna 152, it would have the callsign Air Force One.:ok:

Not entirely correct. The C152 would only be 'Air Force One' if it were a USAF aircraft. If it were a civilian aircraft then it is known as 'Executive One'.

If he's in a Marine aircraft- as flown by his Chopper crew then it is known as 'Marine One'. Interestingly, they use the Sea King!

Go to www.whitehouse.gov/whmo/hmx1.html for further info on Marine One.

If he happens to be in a US Navy aircraft (as he was when he went out to the USS Abe Lincoln) then he uses 'Navy 1'. I didn't know this before but that flight out to the Lincoln was the only time the call sign 'Navy One' has been used in anger. The S-3 Viking has been retired and placed on display at the Naval Aviation Museum in Florida!

Obviously, if he is in an Army aircraft it becomes 'Army One'. They did the helicopter flying for the US president up until the mid 70s I think.

There has never been a 'Coast Guard One' or 'Executive One' flight

More stuff you wouldn't have learnt otherwise Buster! :ok:

Marine One is being replaced by the "Bell/Agusta EH-101"

apacau 28th May 2006 22:30

As far as I know, the runway extension to Rwy 35 at Canberra is entirely funded by the airport.

OperationsNormal 28th May 2006 22:40

Any idea why Apacau ??

Are there secret plans afoot to run 747-100/200 freighters full of fyshwicks finest out of there in summer ?

Sure they MIGHT attract a bit more traffic or slightly higher loads out of there in summer but would this be enough to justify the millions of dollars being spent on the extension ?? (Considering the Q400 will soon be doing the majority of the flying ex CB and can already lift a full load off rwy 35)

Dont get me wrong, im all for an upgrade, but in this day and age of cost cutting and cost recovery I wouldnt have thought theyd be able to justify it.

talespin 29th May 2006 09:38

Here's the scoop. CBR is being steadily upgraded all round so that it is ready to be Sydney's 2nd airport within 10yrs. The Sydney sprawl should've reached the outskirts of the capital by then. :E
