Merged: Helicopter Crash Near St. Albans, NSW

This may be just another media beat up, however :uhoh:

Pilot goes home after crash
From: AAP By staff writers and wires
April 04, 2006
THE pilot of a helicopter which crashed in Sydney today left the scene and went home, leaving three injured passengers in the wreckage, authorities said.

The Bell 206 helicopter crashed in a paddock next to Settlers Road at St Albans, near Wisemans Ferry, in Sydney's outer north-west, about 10.10am (AEST) today.
An Australian Transport Safety Bureau spokesman said it was understood the flight involved a power line inspection.

The NRMA CareFlight rescue service said three people were found injured in the wreckage, including a man aged in his 50s with serious head injuries.

Two other passengers were found suffering minor injuries and were airlifted to Westmead Hospital along with the other victim.

The New South Wales Ambulance Service said the pilot had left the crash site and was later found at his nearby home.

He was taken by ambulance to Westmead Hospital with neck injuries.

Shock can do some strange things to you head. Not the first time this type of thing has happened I believe.

Maybe Ben Cousins was having a fly! Heard the sirens and was off like a startled rabbit! :}

Chopper crash pilot flees crash site

An aussie chopper pilot apparently deserted the scene of the crash.
An Early report here indicates three Pax on board were injured.

Same story here? It's not nice using names Elroy!
Maybe it was Dick, the dick!

Yeah it seems the media (again) has blown things out of proportion. Now, apparently this is what happened:

http://www.news.com.au/story/0,10117...-29280,00.html

The NSW Ambulance Service initially reported the pilot had left the scene and gone home, but NRMA CareFlight said the man had spoken to authorities at the scene before going to make phone calls. He complained of neck injuries when he made the calls at a house near the crash scene, and he was later taken to Westmead Hospital, NRMA CareFlight said.
Channel 10 said the pilot went to a nearby homestead (looked to be about 200m away).

And...

The male pilot managed to land the helicopter on its skids but it rolled over onto its right side, NRMA CareFlight said.
Not as bad as the initial report sounded.

Hmmm, think you may have missed the point Mr Foreign Worker. Ben Cousins has nothing to do with aviation but is famous down here for his... ahm.....quickness off the mark at the first siren......

I hope he's got nothing to hide, depends how far home is from the crash site.

However from my line of work (police comms) when a driver leaves the scene of an accident and travels more than a mile or two he's nicked the motor or drunk too much.

If he lives locally I'll put it down to shock and hopefully he was able to inform the authorities directly.

Maybe it was Dick, the dick!
Per-lease, Australian aviation has had enough DICK, yes thatDick to keep us all safety aware for the next 100 years!

Does anybody know who the pilot was or which company owned the 206?

Woomera 5th Apr 2006 01:52

There will be no names published on here, thanks:suspect: This accident will be subject to investigation.

vortexstate 5th Apr 2006 12:15

After assisting with the other persons on board, the pilot walked around the paddock to get a better mobile reception to make some necessary calls and in typical Australian media fashion, it was reported that he was walking home. Imagine his surprise that while in the ambulance he heard a news flash that he left the scene and gone home.
Get it right boys, because one day you may do a lot more damage than good with your reporting, not that you do much good anyway!
