Jetstar engine failure, diversion to ROK?
Any more details? On their website JQ880 BNE-CNS showing now as JQ7880 BNE-ROK-CNS with about 5 hours downtime in ROK...
This is a rumour network, just going on what I heard during a/c turnaround - NOT portraying it as fact, wondering if anyone knows any more, especially seeing as there have been no reports of death-defying highspeed descents, passengers screaming and fearing for their lives, orphanages barely surviving the onslaught of the disabled aircraft etc etc... |

Jetstar in mid-air drama Natalie Gregg March 13, 2006 ENGINE trouble forced a Jetstar Airbus to make an emergency landing in Rockhampton last night stranding 172 passengers for more than four hours. Passenger Nerida Satour, 34, of Cleveland, said she had heard a strange, loud noise aboard the 5pm Brisbane-Cairns flight. "It was a big thump and clacking noise and the plane started to shudder,"she said. Ali Davenport, 34, of Cairns, said she'd had one of the scariest moments of her life. "The pilot told us the plane had engine failure and we had to divert to Rockhampton," she said. "Everyone grabbed hold of each other – I think there was a lot of praying going on." Jetstar spokesman Simon Westaway said there had been a "technical problem with one of the engines" and not engine failure. "We apologise the aircraft had to divert to Rockhampton, (but) there was not any danger and the captain had complete control," he said. "The Airbus A320 is a brand new aircraft and we want to get to the bottom as to why there was a problem." Ms Davenport said after "a very rough landing" the passengers cheered and clapped. Passengers were flown to Cairns on a replacement plane about 11.20pm. Ms Davenport said many passengers had hired cars for an 11 hour drive to Cairns. |

Well done Guys, thats what you get paid the big bucks for! :ok: (No, I am not being facetious).
So, captain says it was an engine failure, Simon says it wasn't. I know who I believe. Some one better tell your PR spinners we actually do tell the punters what is wrong now days! Technical glitches or indication problems just dont cut it with our more savy passengers when they look out and see flames and fan blades letting go. Fair enough too. Get with it J* PR, support your Guys for what was no doubt a job well done. :) |
Big Bucks - HA HA HA. :} Certainly not on the 330!!! :{
Still cant believe they voted yes :yuk: Just like being back in GA and undercut all the time. :mad: |
Turns out that the A320 suffered a compressor stall. :ouch:

I was on the radio and heard the initial call "Centre Jet* --- we have a tech prob request left turn for RK" five min later Centre asks if fire services are req'd. Um Ahh affirm. five min later Centre We have engineers on the phone can the offer assistance to the problem?
Reply. number - engine at flight idle suspect compressor stall. Carried out reference items in c'list. Pax report FIRE coming from tailpipe??? no pan which raised a few eyebrows on our flight deck. And the engine was apparently still running at flt idle??? We then changed freq so I don't know the outcome. I'm not second guessing the crew as I wasn't there, and they had a safe outcome. Just reporting as I heard it. cheers Wawoftam |
wawoftam, I think you will find that the initial transmission went something like this
"Pan Pan Pan Pan Pan Pan, Brisbane centre jetstar 880 we require descent to FL 200" "jetstar 880, cleared to FL 200" "FL200 jetstar 880 standby" The transmission you are refering to was a subsequent one. That is what I heard.:ok: |
Well done guys. Sounds like it was handled quite professionally. I can say that I would feel very safe on any QF, DJ or JQ flight and thats because of top notch crew professionalism, which strangely enough has very little to do with EBAs or pay scales.:ok:

Oh come on...
professionalism, which strangely enough has very little to do with EBAs or pay scales. |
BLOGGS,
You obviously have no care for professionalism then. |
Got one. Tee hee. :}
