Mons flare - new technique
hi guys
anybody heard of the new flare technique going around...? similar to the jacobson flare technique but has more emphasis on power control. airbus guys have been using it for years apparently, includes a triple check at 50ft, cutting power halfway through the third retard call, and a series of aiming points past the last touchdown markers which transition during the approach each time an auto callout is made (ie 'minima', '100', '50', '30', '50'). not sure how it works in a crosswind though. maybe they could test it out with one of those new crosswind machines. |
Interesting:zzz:
BTW: Similar to this wind-up post, the so-called "Jacobson technique" is an absolute load of nonsense! Explained to me by it's 'inventor' it makes something easy into something far too complex. There is a new landing technique going around where you get to just above the runway, look down the other end of that runway and pull back a bit. Amazing how well it works. Pretty new technique, developed about 100 years ago by a couple of blokes called Wilbur and Orville. :O |
"(ie 'minima', '100', '50', '30', '50')."
Obviously doesn't work too well! |
the third retard call |
I thought the third retard wasnt allowed at the controls below 10,000ft???

cjam,

'Mons technique'...sounds wather wude!!!
Oo-er! |
heh heh....I'm over being pc at the moment....being pc sort of feels like holding your breath....I've decided to be un-pc until christmas and then fall back into line.

There's a flare technique!?
Keep aiming at the numbers until the guy in the other seat twitches, then pull back!:} |
There's a bar in Florida called Mons Venus. Maybe the technique was developed one night there...with a couple of strippers.
I actually like the old 18 mm film they used to show at Sydney Tech called, "The Last 50 Feet". I think it was a 707 or maybe an 8, but it explained it all quite well I thought. |
I think they have this approach confused with the Camel Toe.:p
|
"Mons flare" technique?
Sounds too "tres chic" to me...must be an Airbus thing. |
