Virgin Blue's new livery

Does anyone know why VH-VOI has a new paint scheme? I saw it today at the Tulla maintainance facility. All black with green stripes on the underside of the tail, with a big Gillette razor and insignia on the sides and front. Maybe a few bucks for some high flying advertising?

missy 25th Feb 2005 05:16

Probably answered your own question. Can anyone explain why Virgin Blue are flying aircraft painted in Pacific Blue colours? Surely there is greater potential for confusion especially where the interchange phrase isn't used!!

wirgin blew 25th Feb 2005 05:22

Its all advertising and I'm sure if Gillette are happy other sponsors may follow there lead.
The question must be asked though, what happens if that aircraft goes U/S or is involved in an incident, will that affect the publics perception of that product?

Bugsmasha 25th Feb 2005 05:23

they fly 2 or 3 800's painted in Pacific Blue colours to promote the airline domestically. Never intended to go to NZ.

Ultralights 25th Feb 2005 07:01

i thought it was QF who were trying to sell advertising space on their aircraft ? or jetscar aircraft?

Eastwest Loco 25th Feb 2005 10:03

Well there's a thought!!

As Ozjet seems to be starting up with a 737-200 old enough to vote, maybe they should paint a 12 foot long tampon on the fin.

Could be fairly accurate.

In for one week - out for three.

Best all

Don't they basically look the same? I'd say if you're close enough to discern the words pacificblue instead of virginblue on the side of the aircraft, you're probably a) too close and b) in for a nasty surprise in about 10secs time. ;) :D

DJ flying Pacific Blue a/c

I asked the same thing a while ago, I believe it actually has something to do with cost of registering/maintaing them in NZ vs Aus.... or something like that....

I'd be cut if I ended up on that!

Do they hand out anything to prevent a rash?

Does it have a 5 o'clock shadow?

Alright, I'll stop there. So, if the aircraft is "subsidised" by carrying adverts, do the punters get a refund on their tickets? Just like in a taxi that carries advertising, my trip helps the driver to advertise & generate a cost offset, why can't I have a piece of that action?

Howard Hughes 26th Feb 2005 02:27

Buster,

You will be able to get a piece of the action, this will allow them to provide more $9, $19, $29, (insert any other ridiculously low price here) fares!!

The question you have to ask yourself is, Do you want a piece of that action?

On another note is it just me? But from an advertsing view point, the font and to a lesser extent the picture on this aircraft are way too small. If I was paying $1,000,000+ for advertising, I would sure as hell want it visible from the ground when the aircraft is on approach!!

Cheers, HH.

:ok:

Sky_hi! 26th Feb 2005 03:56

Any pics of this razor of an aircraft?

Edit:
opps sorry my razor sharp intellect caused me to miss Big Hairy potatoes post

Buster Hyman 26th Feb 2005 05:15

Well Howard, I've had a piece of that action & if I don't get another piece, it won't upset me greatly!

You could apply my gripe to getting an ad in with your rates or whatever. My source of revenue for them (insert whoever) is effectively subsidised by the advertiser. I want in!:suspect:

cyclops camel 26th Feb 2005 06:55

Mach 3 in a 737??!!
I'd like to see that!
:D

Servo 26th Feb 2005 09:25

So if the aircraft has a near miss (heaven forbid) would the crew be heard saying............"That was a close shave".....................

Sorry someone had to say it. I will go back to my kennel now.

Ultralights 26th Feb 2005 22:33

from sydney sunday paper.

they are promoting a battery powered razor? :hmm: anyway why Jetscar havent sold any advertising yet.

Last year the Herald revealed Jetstar was touting its Boeing 717 planes for $1 million apiece to advertisers but to date no deal has been signed......... but we'll only work with a partner that fits with the Jetstar brand."
now what product will work with the jetscar brand ?? No frills? Bi-Low? .....

VH-Cheer Up 28th Feb 2005 22:13

That black will be nice on an ISA +25 day on the ramp.

Perhaps a warning of impending cuts at the SRB ranch?

Buster Hyman 1st Mar 2005 01:27

work with a partner that fits with the Jetstar brand
Now that's the sort of thing Branson should go for. 1 million to paint a Jet* aircraft in DJ colours!:ok:
