My Apathy Club has a function organised. Only problem is that I will be thrown out of the club if I turn up!

Fortunately, on Nov 27, I start two weeks leave in Yamba NSW for 14 days of sun, surf and ....... well more surf.

Motorbicycling around the hills of Gippsland myself. Getting shattered on rum in Licola (again), don't forget to ask for a transponder check or two.
Temora sounds good, a bit of planning would have made an AOPA run out of it. Instead of munching a sausage with 4 other bitter cahnts in a paddock somewhere they could have been using their aircraft for niceness, and enjoying themselves... This is the year (as in next) Karrank% learns to fly. If I had to join AOPA to do it I'd learn to drive a boat instead. |
Yeah, weekend off, I'll be in it. Let's see, daughter's graduation Friday night, not much chance for a big night there. :(

For those taking up my suggestion, just got an em from the Museum at Temora advising that the locust plague in the Temora Shire may mean cancelling the Flying Day/s.
Might pay to give them a call Friday afternoon if you're planning to go!! :uhoh: G'day ;) |
Looks like everybody chose a day of inaction.
The support for opposition to the rollback was ... underwhelming. Probably a reflection of the true impact to GA/PVT of the insignificance of the changes in terms of freedoms to fly. So, it's not the airspace - may I suggest it yet again - the charging system / taxes / privatised airports? |
Well I had the privilege of being in the skys around WG on saturday, and not saying I'm perfect but there was more than the usual amount of wallies in the air. It really concerns me when people who are completely situationally and regulatorily unaware insist on flying. If you want to make a stand for GA and attempt to show how "bad" the airspace is, at least operate according to those rules.

returned from a lovely flight YHOX- Temora- YHOX smmoth as silk above the inversion layer! but that last 200 ft into temora was, well, interesting! i dont believe i have ever seen so many bug hits on an aircraft in my life, almost the entire leading edges were yellow from locust guts! add with that a little moisture from cloud approaching YHOX and you have yourself some very interesting slipstream effects without the wind tunnel inks!
With reguards to the national day of action, NO ONE i talked to at YHOX knew what i was talking about! yes, hoxton was unusually busy, but then again, it was brilliant flying weather! If the extra air traffic was a result of the national day of whatever, all it did was remind me what it was like to fly 10 yrs ago, when there was 5 aircraft in the circuit and a constant stream of aircraft approaching and departing It was a flashback to the good ole days where there were plenty of students and a lot more people flying for FUN! |
Out at the local airfield the Pawnee glider tug is busy towing gliders into a 40c day but other than that it's fairly quiet here. And I'm about to sample a good Cab Sav!:ok:

I will cross post for Bob becuase this post makes no sense to me What chance have you got ? Whatever you do, don't do the sensible thing like file a flight plan and fly legally and sensibly, ask for transponder checks or even use the radio if you are up to your neck in having fun on the National Day of Action. It's important that AOPA are seen to be fools. Struth, Especially since the National day of Action mentioned filing flight plans, you, Mate, may have noticed this well circulated gem in the form of a NOTAM which would be present in one form or another and whether Temora were flying or not. It may also explain why "nobody you spoke to at Hoxton Park" wanted to talk to you about the NDA. "Temora Aviation Museum flying activity this weekend may be cancelled due to the locust plague. Currently a locust plague is moving through the Temora Shire and may prevent flying activity. The Museum has prepared its aircraft and crew for the weekends events however flying will depend on local conditions on the day". Crikey, It amazes he he wasn't hit by a jet, let alone a grasshopper. This thing reminds me of the bad old days when we hated ultralights and they hated us. This bloke is an engineer by his own admission and could even be an AOPA member. I wonder if he had a passenger to share this amazing experience with him. I wonder if he talked to anyone while he was "stooging" around over Bindook above the inversion layer. That is, if he did take the most direct route over the worst "tiger country" in Australia. Airmanship aside, this bloke is accepted persona at that anonomous site where common sense is consigned to the "ridicule-then trash bin". Professional Pilot's apparantly them all. Gee, all those 'yellow' leading edges from a grasshopper 'plague' in the green SE.
Geez, come fly across most of the interior area within the tropics during the tail end of the wet season day in day out. Then you'll be able to say you've seen a few "grasshoppers". The word "pizza" springs to mind, and trying to clean it off the screen/oil cooler/every leading edge at each stop on a mailrun. All part of the wonderful world of GA that certain city based elements don't see. Regards, OpsN.;) |
