Saved by EGPWS!

Unprofessional legacy carriers stumped by playstaion II box. Haha! :p

Seriously though; a good lesson for all, especially at the end of a “back of the clock!” That FIX page can come in handy.

An SO now FO with 1900 hours TT; is this really true??:ooh:

KISS - timing works for me and requires no alteration.

G'day ;)

Capt Fathom 8th Nov 2004 05:25

Talking of KISS...:uhoh:

Never take an aeroplane anywhere your brain hasn't been five minutes before.

(By the way, this is a general statement...not directed at any particular incident)

BUT!!!
They got a GPWS warning, responded appropriately, and lived to tell the tale.

A long night , back of the clock, no radar and now program the FMC, I couldn't say that that was an un-makeable mistake.

Accepted that with known terrain etc situational awareness is critical, but how many servicable aircraft fly into hills with "woop woop" screaming into the drivers ears?

There but for the grace of god......

Mate are you for real? It is totally unacceptable under any circumstance to be below MSA, Grid MORA, LSALT--EVER!!!!
To postulate that it is OK and the EGPWS is there to help is outrageous and akin to saying we don’t need ATC because we have TCAS II.

The lesion I thought in this instance is that when you are tired you cannot rely on PlayStation to fly for you. Sh1t in, sh1t out!

It is totally unacceptable under any circumstance to be below MSA, Grid MORA, LSALT--EVER!!!!
Gosh - I'd better not try landing, then.....

Cornholio 9th Nov 2004 03:53

I thought a lesion was something unsightly growing on ya wang....???? :yuk:

It is totally unacceptable under any circumstance to be below MSA, Grid MORA, LSALT--EVER!!!!
What about during a landing?

Duuuuh.....IQ 50, the point is, it was a MISTAKE. Do you consult your charts to determine LSALT or MORA before you mistakenly descend below it? How knob-achingly stupid would THAT be???

Hello-oooo... McFly..... Are you awake????

:*

:hmm:

PS thanks Edna, you beat me to it. :*

BankAngle50 9th Nov 2004 04:41

Cornholio u r a real Tosser!

Did I ever say that it wasn’t a mistake? I thought I clearly stated that it was something we could all learn from.
Oh I forgot when QF almost flies into a hill or makes the Par 4 arrival in BKK, it’s a mistake. Anyway else makes a mistake then they are unprofessional. OK I understand now.

Cornholio 9th Nov 2004 04:51

Mr. Moderator, he called me a tosser.

Boo hoo hoooooo.... :{

As for your comments about 1900hr in the RHS...aa lot of places around the world they would be in the LHS with that TT..
I wish that I was lucky to score a a job in QF with that amount, let alone having 500 hrs on type by n.Green with envy, you might be..
By the way is it lesion, or are we learnnig a lesson??

Cornholio 9th Nov 2004 06:44

I suspect you never even get to play with the FIX page, IQ50.

You're too busy folding maps.

Interesting that the FO had just over 1900 hrs on type. You sure this isn't you trying to BS your way around, Mr. IQ50?
