What ever happened to........

.Has anyone heard what happened to the Captain that defaced a techlog in hobart the other day,a friend was telling me that he crossed at altimeter figures and the words out of tolerance in the vein hope of getting back to the mainland.CASA i believe were notified and so were the people in QF QA

You people have been granted a licence to FLY, not to play GOD and determine what is safe or unsafe. That is the role of the LAME.I look forward to hearing your responses.
This discussion is directed towards all RPT people

Dehavillanddriver 26th Sep 2004 13:25

Well actually we are required to determine what is safe or unsafe by virtue of the fact that we have the final say unless it is clearly u/s, we don't have to accept MEL's etc.

I don't understand that you meant in your post - it is a bit too cryptic for me...

lame1 26th Sep 2004 13:32

Dehavillandriver
you determine what is safe and unsafe via consultation with a LAME.It is the LAME not the pilot that knows if the system is safe.Where in the mel or regs.give the pilot the right to deface a techlog entry
im waiting for your knowledge

itchybum 26th Sep 2004 15:03

are you sure you're really a lame???

Sounds like someone might have a problem with pilots, the glamour end of the operation (haha).

Anyone who plans to throw in a troll-bait around here should maybe study the form a while, then have a go. It works.

This latest attempt to stir up the pilots has really fizzled hasn't it Lame? Sort of like the one about the defect reporting. Just kinda descended into confusion???

Oh well, give it another try, eventually someone will bite no matter how Lame your bait is... :ok:

lame1 26th Sep 2004 15:15

Dont tell me you flt down south

Dehavillanddriver 26th Sep 2004 22:13

Lame1

It has taken me up to now to figure out what you were saying!

I thought you said that a pilot defaced a techlog - but I gather that he/she defaced a techlog entry, crossing out altimeter figures and the words "out of tolerance".

I only figured this out from your second post - it wasn't decipherable from the first.

You are right there is nowhere in the regs that permits pilots to deface log entries - as for defacing techlogs - that is a completely different matter!

As for your other comments - we should be a team, not working against each other - you seem to have a problem with pilots, which is unfortunate - but if working with pilots makes you so unhappy - get a job where there are no pilots - heavy maintenance or perhaps the truck and bus industry - it'll make your life much happier!

Life is too short to be stressing about things like pilots!

we have the final say unless it is clearly u/s,
Sorry mate, you`re not quite correct.
Many airlines (SQ is one example) give the Captain the authority to "override" an MEL, at his discretion.
Many lame`s occasionally ASK Captains to "turn a blind eye" to an MEL which might ground/delay an aircraft`s departure.

Lame`s are one of the many valuable "tools" that allow us DOGs peek the train no the tracks, dan the show running smoothly.

bit lysdexic this morning are we love. :p W

My understanding is that the originator can make any changes to his/hers comments by simply ruling a straight line through the comment or log entry and writing entered in error or VOID.

The breach in protocol would be if the departing crew or someone other than the originator altered the document.

If you have any evidence to your allegations, let the judge decide, this is why we have umpires and why they make regular audits of documents and procedures. If they find that a pilot has gone outside his authority or as you say "played GOD' then they will address it as required.

But as an observer sitting in the seat of no control I am growing more concerned about the defects that are judged O.K. to continue back to main base.

Dehavillanddriver 27th Sep 2004 02:10

Kap - the we to which I refer was the Captain

I are one two!

Neither pilot or engineer can "deface" a Tech Log unless he has just made an error in his/her entry. (as dehavillanddriver says)

A pilot cannot declare an aircraft servicable when an engineer has declared it otherwise. However he can, as the aircraft commander, refuse the aircraft for service on what he believes to be safety grounds...... even if the engineer says it is safe.

Having said that....I think lame1 is having a WINDUP ! ;)

lame1 27th Sep 2004 13:24

Thank u for your replies everyone. What i was quoting .actually happened in hbt not long ago.The off going crew put a defect in the book ie alt miss match then the oncomming crew arrived and realised they had a problem .What did they do,the answer was to change the figures and cross out some other remards like "out of tolerance".I read your website often and i am dismayed that some of you out there would even contemplate similar actions.Ive been in this industry along time and i know that since you guys had your spines removed in 89,the industry has headed south.
I like pilots but i dont condone the actions that many of your brave group display.
As far as declaring the serviceability of an a/c on the ground,ONLY a LAME can declare a unserviceable A/C serviceable.Correct me if im wrong

BLO MOI 27th Sep 2004 13:49

LAME1, you dont know the facts obviously!!,
nothing happened to the capt.
We all know Engineering have an agenda..
something about non-engineering ports etc,etc..
But one thing which has occurred.. the next time an engineer asks for the jump seat to get back from annual leave.....maybe he/she should look at a the train...
god knows how i survived flying biz jets without an engineer sniffing around....

lame1 27th Sep 2004 14:08

BLO
I do know the facts as stated.
Be careful that knife you are playing with has a double edge,as i said before we are watching and will report.Another incident occured on sun in the NT,this time it was decided by the jocks up front(unmanned base) that no interphone or PA was acceptable but funny enough when the QF plane arrived in syd it was worthy of a techlog entry.
Professional i think not.
How do they get some of you to sit upright without a spine.
id love to know

itchybum 27th Sep 2004 14:40

Blo moi, look no further, you got it in one...

Lame1's been left behind on the tarmac with his greasy, calloused thumb out in the wind :ok: when he wanted the jump seat.

Sorry mate, better luck next time. I'd always give a mechanic a lift, after all, you fix our aircraft for us while we're sleeping... meanwhile, back to work on those trolling skills, you're still a little predictable.

lame1 27th Sep 2004 15:16

I know one thing for sure.It wont be long be before itchy gets invited for a coffee and a please explain with that attitude.
Remember we are watching
Qf are a lovely organisation full of compassion until you cross over there imaginary line.CASA love policy and procedure.
