J31 course not far away
 
Just heard the word went out for the remaining guys off the last ground course for possable starts in October, but seeing Air Nsn have givin them the :ok: , Looks liek Origin will need some more chaps & chapesses in the near future.

I think the min they are looking for is 120 Multi but I'd say that would be a tough figure to get atm so if ya got a multi rating & a bit of time have a crack :cool:

Surely there are more people around with 200+ multi, I can think of several off hand (although they may not be applying to OPAL?). Eagle seem to be interviewing the sub 150s now also (aparently one with only 50).

The minimum requirements are as follows

1500tt (flexible if you have good multi)
250me (fair bit of pic in that)
100 IF (the more the better)

A few people on the books with that sort of time. May not be around when the call come thought so in the future these requirements may drop.

In return for working on the mighty 31/32 you get a handsome salary of $28K ($29K if you have all your ATPLS) no rises in pay untill you get a command or reassigned to a different aircraft. Crappy allowances. No seniority and the threat of it all going tits up on you. The company has no obligation to give you a command. Ever. The contract is for a co-pilot.
The conditions are constantly erroding.
At the last union talks the best offer the company could do for its pilots was a $20 (yes, twenty dollars and no cents) a month pay rise, the generosity was overwhelming. And it took the negotiation team 9 months to get that.
The bosses sat down when things were looking bad and told us all that staying here was the best thing to do, please don't apply for other airlines this is a great place to work bla bla bla and then they all ran off and had interveiws with Pac Blue. Nice one.

$28K for a J31 FO ... jesus h christ ... I knew there was a reason why I left NZ :(

A turboprop FO here in the UK earns about that much in £ sterling ...

Be prepared for a huge pay packet of $50,000... oh and don't forget you can top that up by a huge overnight allowance of $50!!!! (But ya gotta buy your KFC out of that)

Greetings, I will attempt to answer the following questions in no particular order (Fairly similar to origin rostering).

Remember that generous allowance of 50K will not be awarded to you straight away, firstly you will be on a step pay of 36K for 3 months, 42K for 6 months after that, and then my god you move to the top salary scale of 50K (and yes once again it does not increase no matter how long you have been there).
In return for bestowing this honour upon you the company will bond you for the amount of $9K (YES NINE THOUSAND DOLLARS AND NO CENTS), for a period of 1 year after your knighthood.
Usually in most companies getting your command is a time for rejoycing, flight manual reading, training and after it is all over the consumption of gallons of hard liquior. At origin your 31/32 command is something you would rather give to someone you don't like.
Please also rememeber that you also get half the amount of annual leave awarded to every other turboprop driver in NZ (not sure about air nat).
Not sure when the course will be, late this year is all iv'e heard.
Euro cap, I agree that 28K is more than some GA pilots get paid in NZ, but remember, Origin is GA!
The point I was trying to make is that all the others get paid more than us with better conditions, if you can go somewhere else you will have more money. Simple.
Direct entry commands........ Management has talked about it in the past and it has been done but you would be about as popular as a pork chop in Jerusalem on a sunday with the first officers.

Nice one, just to chuck fat onto the fire I heard today that the company has just cancelled the next 2 days of negotiations with the pilots AT NO NOTICE!

ATTN: Origin Pilots

This is a complete waste of YOUR subs, ALPA's time, and is an insult to you in the fact the the company is :mad: ing on your back and telling you that it is raining. ALPA has been more than reasonable in it's negotiating and requests with the company and the goodwill has been thrown back in its face as stalling tactics by the company.
Just remember how co-operative they have been next time they ask you to come in on your day off.............. The only way the company will realise that the pilots are not happy with their lot is through lack of co-operation on your part.
Better still as you are now at your computer, update your CV and get a real job!!!
I hope all the lads will stick together, make some noise and show the company your disatisfaction.

Not part of the company cheerleading team obviously? I far from agree with alot of what the company doe's to its staff but feel i should make some points. I dont know if you fellows have been asleep for the last 6 months but the company very nearly went bankrupt a few months back (hense the fact they wont/cant shower it's pilots with payrise's)
Yes J31 f/o's get crudd money, they also only do about 3 days duty a week currently and when they do work the duties are much shorter with fewer/shorter sectors compared to most airlines... and is eagle pay much better?
ALPA have seen the books and should have figured out that until the company sorts out its new "direction" and gets some reservse's behind it, there is no money. I find it ironic ALPA crying because the company canned the days negotiations when last week they advised the company the day before that it had scheduled negotiations the next day.
Origin is a regional outfit and its pilots are generally in the early stages of their careers, it cannot compete with jet operations in areas of pay, conditions but mainly the lure of flying a big horny jet. It picks out from its pilots who show they want to stay in Nelson and offer them a few incentives to stay (training/fleet captain) and it has worked well for them.
The company has to consider the other 300 or so families who rely on it for employment and not just statisfy it pilots. Origin is a good place to work and Nelson is a great place to live. Do your homework and know what you are getting into before you commit (no pun intended)

Good points, there are most certainly other mouths to feed apart from the pilots.

The fact is that it is very hard to negotiate if one party dosen't bother to show up. As for letting the company know when the meeting is, the dates and times are agreed by both parties at the end of the previous meeting.
The pilots want industry standard wages, nothing outrageous.

The fact is if you don't like it leave, which is what A LOT of the pilots will be doing shortly, it still suprises me that the company can't understand why?

The only reason that the boys arn't getting worked hard at the moment is that the company dosn't know what to do with us, if they needed to work us hard i'm sure we would be getting ridden like a mechanical bull.

As to those applying, as NSN says, do your homework, and be carefull what you wish for you just might get it.....

I would dare say that $29K if you have your ATPL's is a lot less than an eagle co.

If you also throw in EAG allowances and the fact that we get the 3% rise per year and staff travel I would say its a hell of alot better.

Also with the jump to command being about 18months at the moment the pay isn't to bad.

But this isn't a slagging match :ok:

I can see the point of veiw of both side's and im sure that when the place is doing more training than revenue flying it will dawn on them.

Split flap - Depends on how well you do it (it being them) Ringing their room and asking if they want a back massage is known to work. gimmly wont say no.

splat - why not everybody seems to enjoy a good slagging match.

Just wondering is there any hope for the guys/girls for a better contract at OPAL or is this just pipe dreams at the mo?
Would have thought be pretty easy to negoitate for the F/O's I'm sure they don't want a silver platter just want to be in same ball park as the rest of the industary guys that do the same type of work ie Link drivers, Peanut = Horse float so round 32K/33k and 41=sabb so bot 40K

Latest word on the grapevine is that if ya going to send ya CV in ya better slap on some more stamps for fast post otherwise ya may not make it in time.
