Pacific Blue Pilots

Is it true that 95% of the (less than 23) pilots hired are Australians...

Says a bit about who's doing what....

Ns 9th Jan 2004 04:26

Well seeing Air NZ in its inability to run an airline cost the jobs of 1000 or so Aussie pilot's a couple of years ago, and PB being an Australian owned company I wouldn't think you Kiwi's would have a problem with that, however I do remember something about the Air NZ pilots wanting all the expansion when they brought the 2nd half of AN but were not there to share the spoils of 13/11/ 2001:cool:

Barbers Pole 9th Jan 2004 04:36

Here we gooooo again!! Where did I put that violin? :yuk:

hoss 9th Jan 2004 10:01

Hey Barbers Pole if you've found the violin and you do requests, how about 'Absolutely' by Vanessa Amorozi:) .

Plas Teek 10th Jan 2004 03:30

I was more referring to the absolute slagging that came this way about Kiwis working for less.

Seems this was not the case.
Plenty of Aussies keen to work for less then eh?
Something like "Kettle Black, This is pot"

I think that violin is now playing a different tune......

And I think we all know why Anse%t went down the gurgler... but that's already been thrashed....

....and it's Amorosi !

anti-skid 10th Jan 2004 12:24

Like Gary Toomey?:}

EPIRB 10th Jan 2004 14:47

Toomey got there after the damage had already been done.

BAE146 10th Jan 2004 15:56

I thought the Ansett theme song was "Shine" by Vanessa Amorosi?

The_Cutest_of_Borg 10th Jan 2004 18:58

Can someone please remind me why I bother to read some of these threads?... is the the trenchant insight...?... the thrust and parry of spirited intellectual debate?....no... thats not it .... (sigh)

............My Generation by the Who ;)

GoNorth 11th Jan 2004 08:18

Must be that shortage of pilots in NZ people are talking about :ouch:

wessex19 11th Jan 2004 09:05

Well here is a little unknown fact.
There are more Kiwis serving in the RAAF and RAN then in the RNZAF and RNZN!!! Anyhow, Just a thought.
What does the constitution say about the 7th State of Oz???:yuk:

kiwilad 11th Jan 2004 16:51

heard something similiar about the number of non-kiwi pilots at pb? Not saying good or bad just wanting to know if that is true or not???

Home Brew 12th Jan 2004 06:45

Well, who has a position there then??

I have heard that SOP Bob is the Ops Manager!!

Visual Landing 12th Jan 2004 10:01

Home Brew you are right

EPIRB 12th Jan 2004 11:34

At the big red rat.

propaganda 12th Jan 2004 18:07

Trimotor,

PB might be an Aussie company in sheeps clothing, but is'nt Virgin Blue a pommie company owned by one Sir Richard..until it floated on the stock market , so shouldn't VB have hired only pommie pilot's..........:ok:

Barbers Pole 13th Jan 2004 04:25

Strings are a bit worn out from playing "Gary went down with Ansett" aka "Devil went down to Georgia"
:ok:

Jet Man 13th Jan 2004 16:34

Well I know 8 pilots that have a job with PB and none are Australian! Someone's math is amiss!

Plas Teek 14th Jan 2004 04:19

Splendid! Good to see some more jobs out there.
Glad to hear that.
Thanks for answering the question...

This is a rumour network after all :ok:

Kaptin M 14th Jan 2004 08:39

A rumour doing the rounds is that they're finding it quite hard to get the pilot numbers.

Could that be because of the pre-tax salary of NZD115K?
Or that the only base is CHC (in spite of having reputedly been granted very generous "incentives" from WLG airport)?
Or is it the $3 per hour paid whilst on duty?

If you were desperate to live in N.Z., then it might be a consideration, but there are plenty of other jobs paying WAY more available now, and coming up shortly.

Barbers Pole 15th Jan 2004 05:03

Yeah that sorta cash isn't gonna intice anyone from AirNZ to jump, couple of our guys went for interviews, probably just outta curiousity.

They have hired 25 for first a/c starting 29th jan and 2nd mid March. Interesting to see they are too chicken to compete on SYD-AKL as there is "too much competetion" obviously don't back themselves that much!!

Lapsus linguae 15th Jan 2004 19:51

Barbers Pole, you obviously consider it acceptable for tax payers to prop up an underperforming airline. Do you work for AirNZ. Pacific Blue won't have that luxury. Perhaps also they realise that most tourists prefer the South Island, and rightly so.
Why does AirNZ not fly LAX-CHC (or several others) maybe they are too chicken, because they most certainly couldn't be called innovative or proactive, but I would rightly call them reactive. The Government should never have bailed them out!

doubleu-anker 17th Jan 2004 19:27

Can't wait for the day when Branson takes over ANZ. Soon I hope.

By the way, if you ANZ employees think you're are indispensable, and a flag carrier is mandatory, I suggest you have a word with some ex-Sabena staff. In fact they are all ex-employees.

She got rid of the strike force didn't she? Dam sight more important than a flag carrier, in my view.

Kanga767 17th Jan 2004 21:15

Vanessa Amorosi

The song "Shine" was actually titled "Die" when she first wrote it.....

TIMMEEEE 19th Jan 2004 05:05

Kanga 767 you are Absolutely correct!

The song was initially about death and dying but the manager and promoter (Michael Gudinski me thinks) talked her into changing the title name.

A bit poetic really considering the death of an airline!

Lapsus Linguae

Last time I looked, Wellington was still in the North Island.

As to PB being NOT supported by the NZ taxpayer. Perhaps you need to establish where the (rumoured) $20 million Christchurch fronted up with, came from.

I might suggest that the reason PB cannot get a guernsey from AKL, is the fact that AKL was not prepared to offer a taxpayer funded 'incentive' for them to fly from there.

Seems strange that VB is happy to fly to the largest population centres in Oz, but curiously avoids it in NZ.

Not offering AKL in their network (where most of the traffic originates) is a curious way to be a viable alternative.

And when I last studied law and commerce, there was a marked difference in funding as a shareholder, and a direct "subsidy".

Just ask the good people of Queensland just how much of their taxpayers funds has disappeared into the VB coffers, and for what return. There is certainly no sustaniable asset to show for it. := :=
