Final Indignity For Ansett?
 

Just watching on the evening news, the very sad sight of an Ansett B767 being demolished by heavy machinery in the USA. :{

Apparently the others will go the same way if no buyer is found soon. :(

What a terribly sad end for some great Aircraft. :(

It was actually a bit closer to home - Melbourne in fact. A sad sight for anybody involved in aviation.

Channel 10 at 5pm said it was in the USA, Channel 9 at 6pm didn't say where, however they then said that at the same time only 2 hours away the Virgin Blue business was happening (BNE), so obviously it was in Melbourne.

Still VERY sad to see, especially for me, after seeing it roll off the line in Seattle 20 odd years ago. :{

Flew into Tulla the other day & saw it broken & lying on the tarmac. Perhaps we should leave it there as a reminder to us all that ths is the ultimate result when greedy men take charge of an industry they know nothing about...you know who I mean.:mad:

Also ironic if it was VH-RME, it was the one that as a brand new Aircraft, was attacked and sabotaged on the flight line at Boeing, now after some 20 odd years of faithful service, it was attacked and destroyed. :{ :{ :{

Why was RME attacked on the line at Boeing, Lame? In the 20 years I was with AN, I never heard anything about that! Was anyone ever brought to book for it?

Maybe there are no FEs current on the aircraft.

Not many people (if any) that weren't there at the time do know about it, both Boeing and Ansett went to a lot of trouble to keep it quiet. ;)

You probably know that the Aircraft were built inside the factory, then towed outside to the flight line for engine installation etc ( as were all B767s).

We came in to the flight line one morning and VH-RME was surrounded by all sorts of security people, someone had done a lot of damage to it, including slashing many seats and also severing many of the wiring looms on the Aircraft. :(

Never found out before we left Seattle whether or not they caught the culprit, believed to be a disgruntled Boeing employee.

It did NOT delay the Aircraft at all, because all the Ansett Aircraft had to go back through the factory to have the F/Es equipment fitted, so Boeing fixed up all the damage then, but it happened, trust me.........

One of the wings has been bought by QF for confined space training for LAMEs.
Its a strange feeling seeing this aircraft cut into pieces 20 years almost to the date that I first flew it.

Winstun I was and and I am very proud of it .
When are you going to get off your anti F/E bandwagon, are you actually employed in aviation?

it was a union thing. They tried the same thing in KiwiLand with their 744's. If you can find a country not affected by these sorts of games... by all means, go there.:ok:

Just goes to show everyone how 20 years in aviation whilst once a long time , is now a lifetime as far as machinery & technology goes. Same thing can be said for careers in aviation. The years that AN utilised those 767's were the most profitable years in that companies history. The 3 man crew operation was superb. Costed out at less than 2 dollars a ticket to have the third crewman; those extra eyes & ears saved the day on countless occasions.
There is only one worse thing to see at present & that is the demise of the Concorde..........sad sad sad.....

No! Unfortunately this is just the latest indignity ... with many more to come me thinks. :sad:

Would anyone know who is handling the scrapping operation, wouldn't mind a chunk of hull to hang on the garage wall or other bits and pieces. Also, anyone know to what extent the aircraft were first stripped and where all the bits went?
