ABC News Breakfast Qantas EBA

Interesting comments made by ABC journalist Madeleine Morris on News Breakfast program (AM 13th OCT) regarding Qantas EBA, flight crew conditions and how the nature of flying/aviation has changed etc. IMO her comments were biased and seemed to intimate that flight crews' remuneration/conditions are too good for what they do. Is she related to some QF management or is she former flight crew? Do these journalists have the same level of legal responsibility and scrutiny that flight crew are subjected to or can they just generate sound bytes without an appropriate level of knowledge on the subject matter. A very concerning aspect is, if she is using the ABC as a platform to promote any industrial agenda or action taken by Qantas.
Flight crews, what is your opinion of those comments? Apologies, I can't send you a link to the program, should be on iView. (or maybe someone can post the segment to this thread)

Interesting topic , generations ago , if it was said on tv it meant something. You trusted what was said and if it was incorrect there was consequences. Newspapers and tv news channels where licensed and run by journalists. Fox News in the states is registered as a entertainment channel so no standards are required . Not sure what license sky news has in Australia ? Talkback or morning shows now more like social media where anyone can say anything .

I hear you on that score, the difference here is that the ABC is not a commercial entity.

ABC News Breakfast is not repeated on iView so there’s no way to verify what you perceived from those comments.

Given 4 Corners had a pro union segment a few weeks back I’d hardly say the editorial line of the network switched that rapidly but they do have an obligation to show a variety of views.

There was a segment broadcast on the ABC midday news regarding the increased pay offer after the freeze to 3%, but the journalist noted this was still well below forecasted inflation. It was a fairly straight news segment.

I've always felt 2 of the most useless people are HR and journalists.

You have to laugh at AJ, quote from the SMH today.

He also denied that management was at odds with staff, despite multiple threats of industrial action over working conditions and pay, and ruled out quitting as chief executive for the second time in a matter of months.

“There is disengagement with a couple of union leaders, not with our employee base,” the Qantas boss said. “Most employees are very pleased we’re offering $10,000 bonuses and significant improvements to staff travel. Don’t misrepresent a couple of union members with a grudge as representative of employees.”

Again you have to wonder what world he actually lives in,the vote for PIA has been well north of 95% so even for him it should not be too hard to work out exactly how the workforce feels about being constantly screwed by him & his so out of touch money hungry executives.
