Canberra Airport EVAC - Shots fired

Is this a case of a match-unfit traveller finally snapping about delayed flights or lost baggage?

No injuries. Guy walked in, sat around for 5 minutes then fired 3 shots into the windows - not at people.

Sounds mental health related.

Either that, or QF/JQ lost his bags.

No shouts of 'Allans Snack Bar' whilst he was letting off the shots?

Poor Canberra airport. AMS (formerly OTS) get a hard-on over this sort of thing. The airport can now expect AMS Inspectors to audit the place, turn up on a flight in cognito (dressed as bikie’s or FIFO workers) and do some sneaky systems tests and be a general pain in the ass.

Had a front row seat to the action from the flight deck at gate 7. Absolute pandemonium in the terminal as people scattered. Lost contact with the company and locked down at the gate for two hours with a full load on board.

Was ‘the shooter’ (as they say in the US) on the air side of the security screen in the RPT passenger terminal? If yes, how was he able to get there with a loaded firearm?

Or was he just a random disgruntled person or bikie on a mission on the land side of the security screen?

It was just in front of the JQ counters which is next to QF counters. I was on shift at the time and whilst it there was some initial chaos it all went pretty well, BUT it was bloody scary and a lot of CBR airport staff (QF, JQ, Swiss, SNP, cafes and others) are feeling fragile

At least the incident ended with the perp being disarmed. Given the proficiency of the average Copper when it comes to the use of their issued sidearm, I shudder to think of the possible consequences.

To be fair to the bloke, when ever I have to use the Qantas Self-Check-In Machines (6 times a fortnight) I feel the same urge to fire off a few rounds in frustration.

Man can only be pushed so far, these machines were built and designed to press every button I have. One poor lady running 30 self-check0in terminals that keep crashing then running a bag drop off centre as well. I feel for the guy !

Yes.

Police + 1 guy with knife = 3 innocent bystanders with shooting injuries.

And I have no doubt that the Police Officers involved will be found to have been fully justified in their actions!

“The public needs to know that police have been properly trained in dealing with people with mental health issues and that they use their guns as a last resort when lives are threatened.”
Made me laugh, that did!

Me too. By far the bigger objective threat to public safety in those circumstances arose when inadequately experienced police with “guns” started using them.

Good friend in the force reckons that around 10 Queensland cops are quitting each week. They are sick of being used as social workers and not being able to do what would be considered to be normal policing. They are sick of their role being prioritised towards supporting diversity and drawing coloured flags at team building sessions, rather than locking up grubs.
