Just Who are exempt??

From online news.
"Health and government authorities approved a COVID-19 positive family to fly in to Adelaide from SE Asia to Australia last week on a privately-funded medevac flight, despite ongoing calls to limit the number of overseas arrivals."
How on earth can this be allowed to have occurred?
Does " money " play a a part in this along with Diplomatic connections?
I wonder who the family were or where they were from?
Seems like varying rules around Australia.

Ummm, seriously, how can this be done? Easily - if you have enough money and power you can buy anything and anyone. Find out who the person/family on the private plane are and you will pretty soon see who they are connected to in the business world or politics. It happens daily around the world in many different formats. It doesn’t need to be explained here on PPrune. It’s how the world functions.

I'll bet there aren't too many asylum seekers among this lot:
ABS data, the Federal Government’s own data, confirms that thousands of people are being allowed to travel here who are not stranded Aussies. These are not Australian citizens or permanent residents. But every week 600 UK citizens arrive in Australia. 500 Chinese citizens. More than 300 Indonesians. More than 250 people from the United States. More than 200 people from the Philippines. 115 people from South Africa.

What is going on is that we are seeing the limits of our federation when under strain.

Each premier is acting like it is their own country.

Each chief health officer is in a pissing contest with the others to be the most cautious and conservative.

The Federal government now no longer published those figures. Another Tin Ear Morrison government decision to hide truth and facts.

Cautious and conservative? No - they’re racing to see who is the dumbest and can generate the most fear.

The scary Delta strain is highly contagious and less dangerous, but you know, don’t spread that story around…. Fxxkwits the lot of them.

Gosh. The link in Clare's post shows estimates for just May 2021 include 10,100 temporary visa holders:
Provisional estimates of overseas trips in May 2021 show:

A total of 115,600 arrivals
  • 44,600 Australian citizens arrivals (39%),
  • 9,900 permanent visa holders (9%),
  • 52,300 New Zealand citizens (45%) and
  • 10,100 temporary visa holders (9%)

A total of 108,300 departures
This statement is also very interesting:
Notice: Ceasing future releases

This temporary product was introduced to provide more timely travel data in response to COVID-19. In line with the ABS work program changes announced on 20 April 2021, this product will cease in July 2021. For further information, see "Changes to the ABS statistical work program".

The last release will be on 14/07/2021.

Provisional travel data for total overseas arrivals and total overseas departures will be added to the monthly Overseas Arrivals and Departures publication from the June issue scheduled for release on the 17 August 2021.
Maybe the pandemic's over?

Can all the geriatrics who keep posting this rubbish just stop? You don’t have any skin in this game so just go and enjoy your retirement and leave the aviation related Covid discussions to those of us who are actually sacrificing something to protect your ancient backsides.

Fancy carrying on about a medical evacuation charter flight ffs.

Well said!

Those geriatrics have never had to sacrifice anything, without choice, to protect anyone's backside, have they.

(Can all the children who keep posting just study some history?)

Wow that escalated quick!

A medical evacuation flight with a Covid positive family. This needs to be treated with extreme caution. What aircraft type was it, yes this makes a difference. Were all on board treated the same when it came to CIQ? Was it a direct flight or did it CIQ at its first stop (tech stop)?

Not just a medical flight, so much more at play.

Then again flying confirmed Covid cases you would think precautions taken even more seriously.

As crew would you fly it?

I think there are a few assumptions being made here. The only fact reported is a family arrived on a medical evacuation flight and where covid positive.

It was a patient transfer ( hospital to hospital ). I interpret that as an Australian repatriation, highly possible through some sort of medical insurance expats commonly have. The transfer was probably approved based on some unknown medical condition and they just happened to be covid positive.

I dont see any problem ? Why such a hysterical response?
