To answer the OP's question, I disagree.
The comment reeks of someone just big-noting themselves in the comfort of knowing they won't have to actually prove themselves - typical of your first class Microsoft flight simmer methinks.
Sully didn't want the media attention, but he got it nonetheless because news is business and the story made lots of money for them. The media turned Sully into a sky-god, but if the outcome were different they could have easily turned him into the most hated man in America - business is business - and Sully had no control whatsoever of this aspect.
FWIW, I accidentally turned into the path of a large oncoming flock of large birds a few days ago in hazy conditions, almost sh!t myself, they were darting all over the place in a giant avian orb and fortunately I was mostly over the centre and to the right of them. Flight Aware captures a 50ft spike in altitude as I hopped over them. I don't plan on writing a book about the experience.

Two things..
Firstly the comment about never trying to fly under a flock of water fowl because their natural instinct is to dive away, is spot on.
Secondly, I’ve flown that departure out of LGA numerous times and in my personal opinion, when you consider where he hit the birds, there was simply nowhere else to put the aircraft given the loss of power. JFK, EWR and TEB or even turning back to LGA were all out of the question. It was the only long and flat space in one of the most densely packed cities in NA.
At the end of the day, he made a decision and everyone walked away. Learn what you can from it and hope you’re never in the same situation.

I had no issue with the media seizing on the story or building Sully up. They did a tremendous job. What I do have an issue with is Sully opening his yap about politics. He should've stuck to airplanes.

This guy had an engine failure after takeoff and tried to make it back to the airfield. He almost made it but unfortunately killed himself, his passenger and a child in the car he hit before hitting the perimeter fence. Doubtless if he had landed on a road or a lake instead the thread starter of this topic would have believed he could have made the airfield.
This accident is pretty horrible but imagine an Airbus doing the same thing....

All hail Bend Alot! The god of gods in aviation, perfect flying, no incidents with 7 ATPLs! and manoeuvring a heavy jet full of pax like it was a 172 going out on a Sunday cruise.
If you’ve ever flown out of LGA, JFK, TEB, EWR, you’ll know the airspace is very complex and ATC will be on your a** if you deviate a hair’s width off your path.
9 out of 10 times from 0ft to 8000ft a departing pilot is most likely looking solely at instruments making sure the aircraft is going where it’s suppose to be going and the only time he/she would consider looking outside is if their TCAS pings to try and find traffic or assessing weather returns on the radar. Unfortunately a flock of geese don’t carry transponders or show up as weather returns.
I highly doubt you know what you’re talking about and agree with the others that you have never done a departure or arrival in that corner of the world.

I’d suggest putting the text you received in the original post into a quote, make it more obvious that it’s not your own thoughts.
I’ll admit first time I read your post I missed that what you were saying was something that you received from someone else.

7 ATPLs, doubt any of them, other than the first one, was issued on anything other than a license conversion for which in some places you just need to spell your name right. Over a 36 year career this suggests a new job in a different country every 5 years on average, which either means the author either isn’t very good at sticking around or wears out his welcome quite quickly.

"could have easily traded airspeed for altitude," - No. "to put the aircraft into a better position" - No. "to glide to the nearest suitable airport." - No.
It's a trollpost.
Sully is a fine aviator.

Mishandled the fuel leak? Now there's an understatement! It wasn't the pilots plural, it was one clown who was infamous amongst the FO's (two of them ended up in EK and were very forthcoming about what a nightmare this character was to fly with). He was a one-man band extraordinaire and NEVER deigned to use a checklist. He was NOT a hero - remember the old adage about a superior pilot using his superior judgement to avoid having to use his superior skills?
Yep, same as the Azores fuel exhaustion pilots. Yes they may have mishandled a fuel leak

Plane hits birds, guy lands plane on water, no one dies. = hero. Whether it was his fault or not, once he hit those birds, he did what he was paid to do and everybody lived.
I call bull****, I doubt any pilot would have written that statement and I also can’t believe a pilot could be so up themselves.
