Probably not. Have you read this document at all?
Webjet is showing economy tickets this weekend for $22000 if you’re that desperate.

Highly unlikely you will be able to use staff travel. Each airport has limits on arriving pax numbers so will likely be maxing those out with full fare pax. Its been reported for months now about economy pax being bumped week after week to make way for biz class pax due to the limits.

ZED’s are the lowest of the low, when it comes to boarding priority so unless you work for UAL, DAL or AA, you’re going to have to be incredibly lucky. I know a few UAL employees have managed to get family members back to Oz using staff travel but they’ve had to watch the flights carefully and pick the right ones.

How much notice do you need to provide Australian authorities that you will be arriving? Media reports yesterday are suggesting a number of pax on a United flight from San Franciscothat was cancelled at late notice (after boarding due aircraft serviceability) are now unable to get a 'slot' into quarantine for some time. It was a media report only but if correct it may make any form of staff travel return to Australia difficult.

DFAT are able to increase daily caps at times when things like this happen.
Had a mate in a similar position due missed connection and they allowed the airline to increase caps by 5. It certainly wasn’t that easy and took many emails and calls, it does however happen.

That said, someone I know just got a LAX/AKL on NZ, then flying AKL/SYD on Emirates/Qantas codeshare for just over AU$3k in 3 weeks time.
He lives in Qld & not sure whether he can now fly straight onto BNE & quarantine there, or has to in SYD. He's contacted about 6 different govt departments & no one can give him an answer. Don't you just love the public service.
Think he was a kiwi, but might have got citizenship here (we gave him heaps when All blacks lost last bledisloe cup game). No idea what passport he travels on.

When pax fail COVID test or don’t get COVID results back in time they can’t travel. ( not relevant to US airlines but many connecting pax required to travel from Europe).
Seats become available at the last moment, based on quarantine availability in Sydney. A staff traveller (Australian citizen ) waiting at airport may be in position to accept seat if they have correct fare class ( no upgrades).
My thinking only. Not proven. 😊
