Back on topic. Binskin has had a taste of CASA behaviour as DAS. There is only ONE reason an honorable man would be coming back to CASA in the role of chair.

.....That is to ensure that the Board and Government provide absolute support for Spence as DAS as she drives through a complete restructure of Australian Aviation regulation with a view to revitalising this stagnant sector of the economy.

The behaviour of CASA senior management will indicate what is really happening. The phrase "blunt and rusty" comes to mind..

Off topic, but I would be VERY interested to know Binskin and Spences opinion of AsA's Class E airspace proposal....

That sounds good in theory, and with Morrison having an agenda to reform bureaucracies you could be potentially correct. But will they be able to, or want to, break down the internal wall of resistance? Time will tell.

You’re suggesting Binskin was previously DAS at some point? When was this?

I think Para 377 is closer to the truth than dislexiq, these two choices are simply more of the same.

Ms Spence is a Departmental insider so she will know exactly what the executive branch of government is there for and ACM Binskin has spent his whole flying career on fast jets.
An economist and a fighter pilot in charge of civil aviation safety - what could possibly go wrong?

From the Airservices website,....

"Air Chief Marshal Mark Binskin (Ret’d) was appointed as Deputy Chair on 13 September 2018. He is Chair of Board Safety Committee and a member of the Board People, Culture and Remuneration Committee and Board Technology and Investment Committee. His current term expires on 13 September 2021."

Does this answer yr question ? Guessing the AsA airspace change plans have just gotten a whole lot easier to achieve ?

Might as well give up and sell now if that is the case. What airspace isn't owned by RPT is owned by RAAF in that model.

Pip and Mark - the greasy pole ascension

Correct, Ms Spence is a bean counter and knows as much about civil aviation as Michael McCormack does. But she meets part of the criteria of the new world of recruitment - a female. She has spent many years working in the bowels of Federal government and has certainly learned a thing or two from Mike MrDak. Now, in regards to Binskin, the Government love these type of people because he has spent decades on his knees blindly and loyally obeying his masters. So he is perfect for the CASA Chair role - to protect and to loyally serve his puppet masters. Plus, as we all know, the Government gets a hard-on employing Defence Force type people. Apparently it looks good on paper. Mr Skidmore was a success wasn’t he? So you have two ‘yes people’ in the top roles at CASA. Anyone who has been Air Marshall or a Department Secretary have only gotten to those heights by being a corporate footstool. They never question the Ministers.

After pondering over the CASA update for 48 hours I have reached the conclusion that this is just more tautological nonsense along the same line that we are used to. Same sh#t, different decade. Round and round and round it goes, where it stops.....well we all know.

377, you sound like you were a reject from the air force and eternally bitter about it. But on further inspection, you are a kiwi.

You have apparently forgotten about the "children overboard" incident, in which Air Chief Marshall Angus Houston corrected the Prime Minister about the real facts. No footstooling there.

Ha. Correct, never worked for the Air Force and proud to be a Kiwi. I stick with my comment that defence personnel do not make good leaders in the civil world. And Houston presided over many many errors and always slipped away when the heat was on. He rates a zero in my book.

I notice that 'Aviation News' is spruiking that Ms Spence will be there - ' For a period of up to five years'.....???

Anybody wanna bet on that..??

Also, she is referred to as an 'aviation advisor'... in a former role.
So far I do not see the result of anything 'positive' from any advice on aviation matters - relating to GA at least - to the Govt of Australia.............

Hoping for the 'great awakening' of GA in OZ.......................................................... ........................................2021.....2022.....20 23......2024......
.

Ms Spence has done the rounds - Department Secretary, COO Infrastructure, aviation adviser, time in the PMC, all the Government boxes ticked to make her the ‘right candidate’ for CEO/DAS. And as Griffo correctly pointed out; what is an ‘aviation adviser’? Simple answer; it is a bureaucrat role that requires that person to meet and speak with department heads (CASA, ASA, ATSB etc), eat soufflé and drink herbal tea, disseminate information between the agencies and the PM’s department and generally act busy while speaking complete sh#t, with a focus on ‘nothing changes’.

Make no mistake, the modern iron ring along with what’s left of the old iron ring (men’s club only) will chew her up and spit her out if she so much as flinches, let alone makes moves that don’t fit in with their plans. Tootle ‘Pip’.

Expecting big things from a new DAS is only setting yourself up for disappointment. If she has been appointed from within then her job is to keep CASA operating within its budget and to deflect criticism from the Senate. AVM Binskin will be appointed to give some form of aviation credibility to the general public if they showed even the slightest interest. Neither of them have been appointed to initiate a reform agenda.

Easy answer - JMac, aka the screaming Skull, a former CASA DAS/CEO.
I doubt he posts on prune but nice try. Anyway as you say you are constipated on the issue but welcome back to the UP. I'm sure Carryon and Pee Two are happy to moderate in your absence.

I doubt he does also. But his language is memorable, which is the opposite of your flying career my Dutch friend. Tootle ‘Pip’.

You know what they say "If you're not Dutch you're not much" but as always you are wrong so keep digging. I have never seen the previous DAS referred to as JMac either except by your alter ego.

Thats the way old man. Septuagenarian retired pilots should have a nap and give the keyboard a rest.
