Never let the truth get in the way of a good story!! Firstly, the domestic configured A320s are not certified for EDTO. Yes, it’s possible to do AKL-BNE non-EDTO using NLK, but then you run into the problem of no life rafts. After having no life rafts the next problem is no HF radios or SATCOM on the domestic birds. So it is highly unlikely you were on a domestic A320.

How did you “lose” your PE seat on an A321? Every Air NZ Airbus is all economy?
