PER ADL 5 days of the week mostly full and drop off a touch on weekend
PER CNS as you know is a JQ route and is often FULL both ways , worthy of a Mainline service but it wouldn't be a return like the JQ crew battle through.
PER DRW pick your season , mostly full both ways. Have you ever looked?
PER CBR 150s each way and its the pollie express.

PER-CNS is an overnight in Perth for JQ, not a return.

I don’t understand the rest of your point. I think you might be confusing my use of the word ‘thin’. I meant this in the sense that they’re low frequency, not the performance of the routes. They could be operated by Network for almost half the crew cost.

Check out Network’s 25 page Pilot EBA (specifically the overtime rate) if you want to see why QF management would be motivated to make such a move.

It’s clear AJ is reducing QF wages bill whilst he can “never waste a good crisis”, grow network do it for a quarter of the cost and now using Covid to reduce those expensive 73 drivers. End of the day they will dress Network 320s to QF standards and the punter will not know the difference. It’s happening right before our very eyes. Next question is those NEOs that were destined for JQ have they been re routed to Network

I have no idea of the actual numbers but I doubt they will be underwhelmed from the Pilot ranks. Many of my colleagues are showing very definite interest.
Remember too, the actual estimate was only available last Thursday and many, like me, are seeking professional advice on the likely scenario if they accept or reject the offer. Anyone approaching or over 60 on the A380 or 744, would probably be leaning towards acceptance. They don't have long though; it closes in just over a week.

How many do they want? 190 from Qantas Longhaul.

Nope no idea. Get a network Captain dressed up in a QF uniform in a QLink painted 320 for $180k ish per year or a 737 QF Captain for about $300k ish. I definitely have no idea. I bet the thought is running through their minds!

You muppet. The highest pay scale 737 Captain will make about $204,000/yr for the foreseeable future. Parse out what a 55 hour divisor gets you, because that’s what the hours will be for what should be obvious reasons.

Or you can pay a Network capt $180k a year for 65 hours a month, then $120 an hour for each hour over 65.

Thats 80 hrs a month for less than $200k a year. How much are you paying a QF 737 skipper to fly those hours?

The overtime rate is really where the pay structure of QF mainline, JQ and Network diverges.

Remember the rumours that JQ was going to operate Qantas painted aeroplanes? (You were probably in primary school for this one ECAMACTIONSCOMPLETE given that one was roughly 2007).

People have been foreshadowing the demise of mainline since Qantas bought Impulse in 2002 and then launched JQ in 2004. Whilst some of the moves by management have seen mainline careers slow and/or stagnate, the reality is the place is still going and domestic is still the major driver behind group profit- far more so than QLink jet operations.

but yes I get your point, I’ve heard my share of rumours that were no where near ever coming true. I am in no way saying ‘this is a certainty of happening’ but with the increase of airframes and the known ambitions of the Network COO, it’s a possibility not worth ruling out.

You must be going crazy in lockdown ecam actions. 45 replies and counting ... commenting on a thread about VR or as you were in high school could a redundancy touch you?

Either way there was no reason to close the JQ Perth base.It's no different to the OOL 787 base or any international operating base..

The silence after the initial announcement was staggering. It's a ready made solution to cover the Bain expulsion of VARA with absolute no regard for welfare of those concerned in the Perth base.

On those thin routes you mentioned above , daily doesn't make it thin.Its not your MEL OOL but they're different markets.

Spruking doom isn't helping anyone.

JQ operated the 787 for years before some were delivered to QF, and in the end QF pilots flew them on pay rates much higher than JQ, despite the predictions by JQ pilots that they would fly them. I can remember when JQ pilots were telling QF pilots they would never get another A330 because “we’re cheaper”. Must have grated on the JQ blokes when brand new QF A332’s taxied past with QF pilots in them, again earning significantly more dough than they were. I understand the point the youngsters are making, but we’ve been here many times before, and this time will be no different.

Don't worry ECAM, many from the tinted generation don't enjoy being fed a hard dose of reality. Especially after the entitled bubble they have lived in over the years.

Those who don't adapt to COVID-19 will find themselves out of the cockpit for a very long time, if not forever.

mmmmm, 21 years to be able to access a short haul command on the East coast, 23 years to be able to access a long haul command in Perth. Feeling pretty f#@$&%g entitled. The Captains in every other company are still fighting teenage acne. The entitled folks you speak of are the circa 1980 crowd who got 4 engine Sydney commands in 6 years.
