Great to hear, may I suggest you go back and publish your findings so that they can be peer reviewed? Surely an esteemed academic such as yourself would know to use official scientific channels instead of ranting on PPRuNe.

I don't have any scientific qualifications, nor do I need any. I listen to the general consensus of the relevant experts in the field and will continue to do so.

Surely as a scientist you would recommend such action for the average punter, over listening to some lunatic on a internet forum?

Why are you even here then?

It is, after all, just an internet forum...

Because I am a pilot and the last time I checked this is a pilot Forum, not the flat earth society or anti vaxxers forum. Go and spread your misinformation and bullshit somewhere else like Facebook or Twitter.

Calm down old mate.

Not worth getting steamed up about. I am trying to understand your point of view.

What "misinformation and bull$hit" am I supposed to have spread?

This sort of statement reeks of someone lacking any positive input yet would like to enter the conversation with fairly fact devoid jibes. I'm not a psychologist but having watched Trump in action I'd compare this response with that of a narcissist.

I'm afraid offers zero usefulness to the discussion. Just my opinion.

Read that ad infested article and you’ll see that number is exaggerated by about 107.96 million people.
I don't quite know how to break this to you dr dre but I think you've misread the amount tested as the amount locked down. 40,000 have been tested. There are about 700,000 residents locked down in Shulan and Jilin City has a population circa 1.5m. But looking at those numbers you are quite correct. Even with quite wild statistical deviation, 2.2m is going to struggle to be rounded up to 108m.

And you are exceedingly correct about the ad infestation. I would never have looked at the daily express had the link not been posted.

Quarantine in Germany

The only impediment to travel returning to normal are the Governments of the World.

Germany are opening their borders. Firstly with Austria, but have said they will be open for EU and Schengen countries for Summer.
Greece will be open for the Summer holiday season.
Italy have set up beaches to comply with Social Distancing measures, for summer.
Spain has introduced a 14 day quarantine period for arrivals. The quarantine period applies from the 15th till 24th of May only. So if you arrive on the 24th, you go into quarantine. Arrive 25th, straight to the beach.
England has imposed restrictions, with exemptions.
Carnival Cruise Line (everyone's favourite floating petri dish) reopened booking from the 1st of August. Demand is up 600% on this time last year.
The Business World is screaming to be allowed to travel again.

Just to name a few. As soon as restictions are lifted, people are going to travel for the sake of travelling. An airline in America is reporting strong demand as people just travel to visit family. Jobless, debt, wont be a deterrent. Another few $k on the credit card will not even be an after thought.

The media is doing more damage than the virus itself. And it feeds the uneducated massess in overhyped hysteria.
This morning's story CNN is that there are not enough syringes to vaccinate people if a vaccine was available. Considering that the same outlet has been stating for months that a vaccine is 12-18 months away, who cares about syringes right now. If you look into it a bit more, you will see that the US Govenrment took steps in January to obtain 100's of Millions more syringes. Just a beat up story for the sake of a story to promote an agenda.

2 weeks ago the worst was still to come for England. Now all of a sudden, things are improving and it is time to get back to work. Bu11sh1t!

There are other examples of inadequate or flawed testing policy. The death figures are skewed towards making COVID-19 worse than it is.

How many of you actually know someone who has or has had the virus? Only 700 people in Australia currently have the virus. 43% of ALL deaths have come from 2 sources, The Ruby Princess and the Nursing home in Western Sydney.

And for all that, people think the Governments response of have hearted shut down (it wasn't even a proper or effective shutdown) of the country that has financially grippled Australia for 1 or 2 Generations is a reasonable action.
We are now just destroying the World for no tangible benefit.
Please could you kindly cite your source for the German reference? Trying to work out when my kids might see me again....German Embassy made no reference to 24th date in correspondence to me today. Tks in advance and if true, the best news I have had in a long time!

DW have it, The Guardian, NewEurope etc. A simple Google search will reveal more.
Forbes also have a story about the Austrian German border being open, doesn't detail in what capacity.

https://www.dw.com/en/germany-aims-t...now/a-53425563.
Border open from Saturday.

7500 people a day in the USA die from something other than COVID.

There is a way to make all parties happy. If you have concerns, fears or in a high risks group; you can isolate and take all the precautions you want. Buy all your food and toilet paper online. Keep Uber Eats busy. You donít have to integrate into society until you are ready.

If you are in the group that looks at the numbers and sees the risk of death from COVID is not a huge concern then you are allowed to live a normal life. Open up the restaurants, pubs and restore travel. Allow those that donít fear this to return to normality.

There is a way to make both groups happy.

Am I reading that right?

Age 25 up Covid 19 is shaping up to be a top 10 killer in the US?

If everyone caught Flu within 3 months, the healthcare system would be unable to cope.

I fully agree, it is not an option without mitigation as the consequences would be around 100-200k dead in the U.K. alone. Sweden have done a fantastic job of shielding their vulnerable and aged, paying dividends. They will be the first out of this by a long shot and once the disease dies out in Sweden, aged people will be able to venture out unhindered again. In reality, a mix of testing on departure, antibody passports as well as acquired immunity will be the solution. If the UKs vaccine trial does not work as advertised in September, I expect there will have to be a significant policy shift to such measures by early October. It may well be that natural immunity is approaching 60% by then anyway, hence why the governemnt feels only 30 million vaccines are necessary. We are a decent way towards aquired immunity anyhow so not expecting the second wave in the U.K. to anywhere near as severe as the first. Half of care homes have had this, lessons have been learned and will be applied for round 2.
do you really think Sweden represents the benchmark to which all others should aspire?

As the head of health in Sweden said though, when we look back in 10 years every country will have a similar mortality rate per capita, doesn't matter if it happens quickly or slowly everyone will be the same. He did acknowledge that if a vaccine is found then obviously the Swedish response may not of been the correct one, but if no vaccine is found at some point Australia and New Zealand will have to open up and accept a bit more transmission. He is right on one point, we will not know for 10 - 20 years when we can review this entire pandemic.

An adaptive immune system, aided in no small measure by the globally available Flu Vaccine which all frontline medical workers get at the start of every flu season.

Whereís the CV19 vaccine at, then?

What he said.
I'm no scientist either but having lived and worked in China for some years I can tell you with some authority and confidence, that nobody on PPRuNe (or the rest of the world for that matter) would have a frigging clue what is going on in China re covid19, in fact 95% of the population only know what the CCP tell them they know

EasyJet have recently announced the introduction of 198 weekly flights commencing 15 June, with others likely to follow. (BBC News)

The UK is still getting around 2500 new cases per day (Worldometer).

Australian State Premiers are having a discussion about keeping their borders shut beyond September.

At some stage we are going to have to take a risk, learn to accept there will be more cases and we are well prepared now.

Elimination is a costly goal.
