QR to launch BNE on March 29

From AusBT, sorry, it's 'ET' now:

"Qatar Airways to fly to Brisbane from March 29; plus Sydney goes triple-daily, with twice-daily flights for Melbourne & Perth"

https://www.executivetraveller.com/n...rways-brisbane

That's a LOT of extra flights, obviously just for the big 'repatriation' and also taking advantage of EK and EY being grounded for the next two weeks plus SQ and CX being pretty much dead for transits. Smart cookie, that CEO sheik!

Overseas travel for Australians is banned. Who are they planning to have on these flights?

I hope the authorities have a plan for all these returning Australians that’s more than “please self isolate”. Enforced quarantine is required.

Scotty just announced. From tomorrow night, anyone inbound will be quarantined by the States, in facilities to be overseen by the states. Defence Force will be positioned to these hotels or buildings to ensure compliance.

Well I have 2 relatives marooned here in Australia since EK cancelled their flights. They are now flying out from Brisbane for the UK on Qatar tomorrow. There must be 1000's like them.
Mind you Qatar are not doing it to do anyone a favour. Cost them $5000 one way economy.
At least they will get home.

Is this profiteering or what!! I hope those that paid this extortionate amount don't get their flight cancelled at the last minute and have to wait months for a refund.

Germany sends plane to rescue stranded tourists from Nepal

A rescue flight arranged by the German government on Friday picked up hundreds of tourists who had been stranded in Nepal since the Himalayan nation went on lockdown earlier this week, the Press Association reports:
The Qatar Airways charter flight took off with 305 people on board, said Deo Chandra Lal Karna, an official at Kathmandu’s Tribhuvan International Airport.

Immigration official Sagar Acharya said most of the passengers were German nationals or had some connection to the country.

The airport reopened only for the flight, which did not bring any passengers to Nepal.

Nepal, home to the highest mountains and hiking trails, is popular with tourists during the spring season when the weather is favorable for climbing.

Up to 10,000 tourists are believed to be stranded in Nepal since the government ordered a complete lockdown that halted all flights and road travel to prevent the spread of the virus. Businesses and government offices were also shut.

Nepal has only three confirmed cases of the coronavirus, including one who has recovered.
I am guessing they will make a bit on this charter

Its about time flights are priced properly, not $200 specials so every bogan can fly.

"Qatar Airways is requesting financial support from the Qatari government, despite being one of the only airlines continuing to maintain scheduled commercial passenger services.

Over the next two weeks, the business expects to operate 1,800 flights despite the heavy loss of demand and other companies grounding entire fleets.

Qatar Airways has been operating some flights at 50 per cent occupancy or less and if it fills 45 per cent of seats on flights over the next two weeks it will carry about 250,000 passengers. Chief executive Akbar Al Baker told Reuters on Sunday that the carrier could soon run out of the cash needed to continue flying."

A report in yesterdays edition of the Phnom Penh Post Newspaper stated 10,521 of approx. 15,000 foreigners in Cambodia signed a petition calling on Boris Johnson to fly them home. The bulk of the 10,521 are UK citizens enjoying the Cambodian weather. There are no prizes for guessing Qatar has come to their rescue. It would appear some airlines cancelled services prematurely.

Not QF who just operated numerous flights to the U.S and A full of passengers off the Ruby Princess cruise ship? One flight had over 300 pax off the boat on board.
QR have announced 48,000 extra seats for the purpose of repatriating Australian Citizens. No one other than Australian Residents can board the plane. Of course you would be to stupid to accept that such a move has been done with full co-operation with the Australian Government, and maybe even at their request.
A list off flights with KNOWN affected people on board features Qantas very heavily, along with EK, SQ and QR.

Out of curiosity, what is the source of your "rumour"? Again, it is only QR that have crew members that have contracted the virus, not any other airline. And there is NO chance they could have contracted it anywhere else, except on board an aircraft.
Clown 🤡
About 10 from the Air NZ London base have COVID-19, and a friend at Delta has noted they have many staff ill, including several in ICU

Angryrat, where in the article does the CEO say "Coronavirus does not exist"?

NB: The headline of a newspaper from the Country leading the blockade against Qatar probably isn't a reputable source. The CEO would be far more widely quoted if he'd actually said it don't you think?

Where in the article does it say he doubts the existence of the virus? (apart from the headline, which isn't a quote).

The best I can figure is that he says he doubts the transmission period.
