Airline ratings website run by one of Australia’s show pony “aviation experts” and ex baggage handler with the initials GT - do a search for any of his “expert” opinions - especially about QF, and you will see that his website is a “I’ll give you $5 to write this about us” type of deal.

Qantas chief executive Alan Joyce upped the stakes in his negotiation with staff over the upcoming London to Sydney route, telling reporters there was “no shortage of pilots” ready to take on the assignment.
Talking as he announced cuts to services to Asia, he said, “I’ve had the letter from a captain from China Southern who says he’s been laid off in recent issues there, and he can get hundreds of captains from China and Asia to operate Project Sunrise if we want to.”

So if the Qantas pilots don’t play ball you’ll present a multi billion dollar proposal to the board at the end of March detailing how the proposal all hinges on a letter you’ve received from a CSA pilot?

Well, I was going to at least ask (being the eternal skeptic) if the reported statement about the "letter" mentioned in the article was legit or might be fabricated. But, didn't want to pick a fight with anyone.
As I said, it was a "bold" statement.
So Alan & co are behaving in a belligerent and contemptible manner, and there are pilots elsewhere who’d happily jump in and do this flying?

History has proven that there are people willing to sell their grandmothers to get ahead. I would not be surprised if such a letter actually exists. And calling anyone who takes on this position will not affect them at all, once again, look at history.
It’s beginning to be pretty obvious that Qantas is going to bypass AIPA on this, put out an agreement that Mainline pilots have the opportunity to transfer over to, if they don’t it’s offered elsewhere in the group , then offered externally. That way Joyce and co can tell the travelling public who basically don’t care anymore that it was offered to all Qantas pilots and he’s done the “right” thing.
Pilots used to be respected at this company, now if you think you are more than just a commodity you are fooling yourself. You can be proud to be working for Qantas but the company has absolutely no pride or respect for you.

A desperate and unpatriotic approach from what appears to be a "Gestapo Style" management regime. What next?
Pilots still are very respected at the red roo by myself, other ngineers and the general public. Probably more than they (and management) will ever know. Incidents such as OQA are testimony to that fact.
Another legacy I do not wish to see destroyed.

China Southern ? What a coincidence. I can just imagine Alan eagerly opening his mysterious letter from China. Or more likely; Alan having his least favorite permanent undersecretary open it in a separate building.
This is a hilarious turn in Industrial relations. Whats next for Qantas IR ? Perhaps a series of ranting Tweets at 4am, followed by Alan pardoning Tino.
If the supposed letter is genuine the writer may in fact be a previous QF Group employee. Someone I know fits the bill. Apart from getting out of China and pocketing some bucks he may be looking at getting back into mainstream aviation. He was always on the look out to make an extra dollar.

Pretty odd way to get a message across - referring to an unsolicited letter from a pilot. Maybe its his way of saying what is an alternative plan but not committing to it and giving him the flexibility to back away from it later ("it was not my plan - it was just an idea from a pilot").
He is being very clear so you know what is coming. But its not really the communication you would expect from a CEO of one of the largest companies in Australia. Maybe he has been taking lessons from the CEO's of a couple middle eastern airlines.

I think that Qantas IR are creating a narrative. At what point do you think Joyce is poring over letters from random pilots in China ? He’s already very busy; threatening his ground handlers at Jetstar, pilots at Jetstar, Qantas Long Haul pilots, and Perth airport (as a fun hobby).
The most likely theory - the window licker and Chairman’s club member at that unsightly website also reads the Prune. Then ... much like Baldrick, he had an idea.
And here we are, being manipulated on the internet by a guy who failed at Aer lingus, and then rode Ansett into the ground clutching at the cash.
No pilot would survive that sort of crash. Yet, a mediocre office boy, with a trail of failure behind him is paid more than the most successful airline CEOs in the world.
