One more reason for Australians never to fly with this Sydney - centric airline. The flights will have a considerable effect on the destination for inbound overseas investment at the expense of the other capital cities.

I go out of my way to avoid QF. Last three O/S flights to Europe were Etihad, Austrian and Emirates. Next year is Vietnam airlines. All business class.

As long as one other pilot is qualified APIC (Acting Pilot In Command) it’s fine. On all three pilot flights the Captain spends one third of the flight in the bunk.

Are you sure about that? Only 1 Cpt. doesn't make sense. Is he in command during the whole flight? I don't think he could do that.
Not a “he”, Captain Lisa Norman is operating this flight.

Not according to several news stories. She may be onboard as a 'patient'.

With the number of aircraft been talked about there will be at least two flights a day from the east coast, guessing Sydney and Melbourne with the 380 thru Singapore getting dropped. I also wouldn’t buy a ticket on Qantas and agree whole heartedly with your sentiments.

"A point that many flyers don’t consider. If you fly infrequently then there is little to be concerned about in regards to radiation. However, if you’re a regular passenger on long-haul flights, and especially routes that fly over the poles then you will have greater exposure to cosmic ionizing radiation, simply by being closer to space."

Is that why pilots fly in lead-lined suits?

Hopefully not on their 787; the hardest and tapering to the narrowest, Business seat I've sat in (Hanoi - LHR).
Service was reasonable though.

Definitely should be illegal. Where are the UNHCR when you need them.? If you subjected your pet to such cruelty you would rightly be prosecuted by the RSPCA.

11 years of 340 flying the route as the longest at the time. Correct only 18 hours, however surely some good date there.

Yes it was only J class for a long time, not that that effects the drivers, but certainly does the CC which no one has really spoken about on this new service. They will be working!!!

So the key is to get the crew compliment, rest and rest area right.

I am no angel, just a realist.

With all 35 pax in Business Class according to the loadsheet. Makes a mockery of the “research” already!

It’s why Qantas FOs have command endorsements on the aircraft that operate with Second Officers - only 1 PIC,the Captain - but both Capt and FO can be on the flight deck with a Second Officer.

I'm not sure whether any of the guinea-pig employees are consigned to 20 hours in coach seats:
I heard a radio interview with a journalist who was saying that they were asked to sit in the rear of the plane to balance it. Evidently they were going to put a bar back there, or at least ensure the journalists were well ‘watered’ during the trip. He did mention they all had business class seats though.

All sounds like a complete farce but with the press bought off, I doubt we will see anything but glowing reviews and a smiling Joyce at the end of it.

Why all the negativity?

it is only a feasibility study after all. I would rather suffer through a longer flight, rather than suffer a transfer in LAX.

Numpty, LAX to be avoided if possible for sure, but IAH, SFO are not to bad as a transit.....but in Y class, it is nice to actually to get out of the 30 inch pitch box and and get a break from everyone living within inches of you .....especially if your ticket is a late one and the "middle" is all that is available.

But if I was up there in J, easy peasy.

From a management perspective, might your costs be less in a direct flight? Fuel, landing, handling, cleaning and other costs ......and you get to charge the punters more for the privilege of a direct flight?

Whats not to like?
