Transpose the scene to Essendon Runway 17 and it wouldn't be a good look. Emas would have been useful?

The went for a swim some 3000m down a runway and grass. Yeah EMAS would have helped, as would nets, arrestor wires and hooks and probably a risk assessment and use of TOGA switches and maybe even a short hold.

they made a pretty significant error. Many things could have helped.

The runway has arrestor wires both end, LDA was only 7800 ft because of this, NTSB FDR has them at 162 kts IAS with 15 kts tail on a contaminated short runway, with only one operative reverse (one inop under MEL).
