60 Minutes Boeing Tonight

SUNDAY, MAY 5, AT 8:40PM ON NINE AFTER LEGO MASTERS

FATAL FLAW
When aircraft manufacturer Boeing announced its brand-new passenger jet, the 737 MAX, it thought it was onto another winner. Airlines around the world – including Australia – ordered thousands. But Boeing was wrong, and the plane has turned out to be a catastrophic failure. In the last six months two of the jets have crashed and 346 people have been killed. In a special edition of 60 MINUTES , Liz Hayes reconstructs the final horrific moments of both Lion Air flight 610 and Ethiopian Airlines flight 302. In startling interviews with 737 pilots, aircraft engineers and a former Boeing insider, Hayes investigates the fatal flaw of the 737 MAX, and questions not only why Boeing designed a plane with the ability to override the control of the pilots, but also why the company didn’t tell the airlines buying the planes it was doing this. Boeing says it can, and will, fix the problem, but Hayes asks whether the damage has already been done. For decades Boeing has relied on the undisputed trust of pilots and millions of passengers flying worldwide. But now, has it all been lost?

Yes, I’m sure this will be objective, rational and facts based with not a hint of sensationalism or fearmongering as is the norm with any episode of the pinnacle of Australian journalism, 60 Minutes..... /s

Agreed and the (or) other Former Boeing Insider(s) does not have any grievances or axe to grind; already been shown to had services terminated or other reasons.
Not sure when I last watched 60 Minutes; must have been at least 25 years ago and have not seen any reason the credibility of the show has ever been restored; sure some here will watch and report fully.

Will they report the problems, difficulties the L1011, The B707, B727, B747, DC9, A320, DH Comet and others encountered in their early life only to be resolved with all these aircraft providing long life with distinguished service?

Difference is the 737 has been around for decades... It’s the additions and evolution that are the problem, it’s not anew type.

Story would be better suited to 4 Corners who usually confront stories in a way that often gets them into trouble and a lot of people offside. Essentially just cutting to the chase and exposing lies.

The B747 had engine "issues" the pilots knew about this "issue"

They even demonstrated the "issue" to the engine manufacturer management during flight - twice I believe.

MCAS was hidden, then covered up with a gloss over after fatal 1 - it is still fine after Fatal 2, but needs a minor tweak - but know pilot will know the stick feel change when it is required but can not activate until "they enter that zone"

But if 0.6 was the design figure but 2.5 was required - expect a surprise on the edge of the envelope when things are most probably not going well by this stage anyway due other factors, that put you at the edge of envelope.

It will be nothing like waiting for a engine to explode - that you are half expecting.

I hope she does a better job than her disastrous reporting on the Lockyer Valley floods where she accused the Wagners from Toowoomba of causing the deaths of 12 people.

Liz Hayes is a dumbarse who doesn't have a clue what she's talking about.

Edit: 60sec is the equivalent of the Melbourne Truth newspaper from the 70s.

I cannot understand this American Union Captain. You get lost in the sensationalist quoting. Sounds like a politician.

I don't even live in Oz, yet this link showed up on my news-feed. Must be paid for advertising tied to the keyword B737. I read the first few sentences thinking it might be an actual news story, then realised it was old news was rubbish. Good to see I am not alone in thinking so...

Edit: After getting to watch the full program, I would tone down my opinion somewhat.

Open and shut case then as GT also issued the final reports in March on Channel 7 and in the West Australian, that bastion of truth.

https://thewest.com.au/opinion/almost-inconceivable-that-same-problem-could-strike-737-twice-ng-b881131613z

Of course, everyone is wrong, there is no connection whatsoever between the Lion and Ethiopian crashes. There are highly reliable eye witness accounts of the ET crash from Ethiopian farmers working nearby. Good to know they have helped GT establish the final cause.https://www.airlineratings.com/news/...-smoke-impact/

Everyone may be right about the coverage, but the fact is that all the non-aviation people out there will have watched it, lapped it all up & treated the information presented as fact. And that will do damage to the industry.

Interesting report. We gotta remember the show is aimed at the general public more than us minority group pilots.
Boeing sure dropped the ball on this one. Be interesting to see the long term outcome?
Airbus, way of the future
