Sometimes the mountain comes to you, there is no need to go to the mountain....

A crisis (self induced) on their part does not constitute an emergency on the pilot body...

As was seen with O'Leary, they will deride, divide and threaten but eventually...

'First they ignore you, then they laugh at you, then they fight you and then you win'

-Gandhi

Of course pilots ultimately can cause great disruption to their narrative. Particularly if they are appearing not to hear the message..

As one poster commented' "the only thing more inefficient than a fuel guzzling jet is a stationary one"...

The regulations actually empower pilots, despite what the corporates want to remind you of; Pilots answer to the regulator first and within reason the corporation. Decisions on fitness to fly, fuel and everything else are enshrined in statute!

Controlling your career path and terms of employment through 'competitive outsourcing' kept downwards on their cost base, was ALWAYS prime focus as it ought be.

However it is arguable that the bottom has been reached on the basis of now ever increasingly evident supply shortage.

It is only their fight to win if both sides are present.

For those who may be anxious, or angry or ready to “do something” just google ‘pilot shortage’. There are pages of articles this year alone.

I ask the question, why would we have to put our salary at risk? Do management put any of their salary at risk? No they don’t. They get paid their salary and then get a bonus on top of their salary for performance. It’s a fallacy that is peddled out by those that are paid a bonus but don’t want another group of employees to partake in bonuses.

AD also went on to say and I’m paraphrasing here, he could lose his job tomorrow and that’s also why he gets a bonus. Well I suggest that if he was to lose his job tomorrow it will be because he isn’t doing his job effectively. Now I’m not suggesting this is the case, I’m just suggesting it’s another fallacy that is put out by those that are paid bonuses.

I also can lose my job tomorrow if I have a disaster of a day or I have a medical issue that precludes me from holding a class 1 medical. I’m not getting a bonus though. I would suggest that I’m remunerated well and have some protections in place in the case of a medical issue but in the case of those who are on the executive bonuses they are very well remunerated too.

Finally AD also mentioned that our customers distinguish between Qantas and Qantaslink by there being no business class and also no service. Well I put it out there then, why are we operating 717’s with business class and full service on the golden triangle? Do those passengers get onboard in Melbourne and not expect to get a meal? Do those in the business class seats pay only for economy?

It just goes to show the more they talk the more they believe in what they are saying even if it’s not factually true. I honestly believe that AD means well but at the end of the day they really have no way of justifying Jetconnect and the Network 320’s won’t harm mainline careers.

Ignore them , ignore the threats and go for a minimum 6% pay rise per year, otherwise vote down, then go to fair work and start some PIA, that’s the only way they will listen, hopefully we get another lockout, it would be hilarious, after that we can get chinese carrier contracts worth upwards 600k a year. And ground the whole thing to a halt. This is the narrative they are missing, there is a massive shortage of pilots, they live in their short term bubble with no idea. We win they lose, it’s simple maths people.

To have witnessed O'Leary on bended knee to the pilots is something that they never imagined.

In the book Ryanair: How a small Irish airline conquered Europe, it was quoted that the strategy of management was:

"The idea was to recruit a vibrant start-up team, burn them out, then get rid of them and put in a fresh team"

Mr Joyce mouthed a very similar phrase when given the job of running JQ by Mr Dixon.

Given that unlimited supply predicates everything they do, it begins to make sense why they continue to do as they always have done; create, fear, uncertainty and doubt with a mixture of thinly veiled threats, half truths and outright misrepresentations.

From the press release:
For shareholders, we continue our focus on building long term value. The board has announced a further $500 million of capital will be returned – comprising a 7 cent per share dividend, unfranked, and another buyback worth up to $378 million.
This additional buy-back is expected to bring the total reduction of shares on issue to 24 per cent since 2015. That’s almost a quarter of our capital base.
For customers, we are today announcing several new investments.
Jetstar will start taking delivery of new A320s from its existing order, beginning with 18 A321 NEOs from mid-2020.
These next generation aircraft have the extended range to fly from Melbourne and Sydney to Bali. That means we can redeploy some of the 787s that Jetstar currently use on these routes to new markets – places like Vietnam, China and Hawaii. Given the standout performance of Jetstar in recent years, we expect to see an excellent return on this investment.
…………...
We’re also upgrading the cabins of our 45 QantasLink turboprops. These single-class aircraft fly regional routes throughout Australia and will have new seat cushions and new leather upholstery, to significantly improve the experience for customers.

We need to be realistic, we aren’t talking about Ryanair or a regional operation here, we are talking about mainline Qantas. Arguably the best airline conditions in the country for a legacy carrier crewed by nationals in their own country. It’s going to be a long time before any pilot shortage hits mainline enough to be a bargaining tool, and the recent announcement by AJ shows they are aware of this anyway.
Don’t panic, but sitting on your hands hoping that a pilot shortage will work in our favor without proactively securing our flying is foolish, I certainly don’t want another 10 years of stagnation while every other airline in the group progresses. Get stuck into them AIPA.

Not a lot being announced to do with new aircraft at this point. It’s teling that the first NEO’s were slated to be at Jetstar this year not in 2020. Still wondering what all those NEO’s are for then (99 320 and 45 321’s)

Eyeing the enormous demand for air travel and pilots coming from Asia, Mr Joyce announced that Qantas would open its own pilot academy in 2019, which it hoped would become the biggest in the southern hemisphere, capable of producing 500 pilots a year.
"To do it, we’ll partner with a leading education provider, and we’ll engage with federal, state and territory governments who want to attract a facility of this calibre," Mr Joyce said.
So Qantas pilots, Australia joins the globe as your Orwellian overlords have another key plank in controlling supply and ultimately terms and conditions.

It may have dawned on the smartest guys in the room that an early Fear, uncertainty and Doubt Campaign (Network and Jetconnect) might with a long term zero cost contract lock in the bottom until this 'scheme' comes online..

Wait...so the whole ‘sacred scroll’ that they got management to sign alongside all of our pilot reps was a load of ****e?

I think those 18 NEOs are conveniently timed to coincide with JQ EBA negotiations.

Flight school to keep a supply of local dreamers ready to jump onboard with guaranteed supply.

Play the divisions off against each other for toys and promotion.

I am sure the QF Pilots will be happy to fly them under the MOU on JQ terms and conditions, just like the previous 120 or so MOU pilots.

No wonder AJ and Co wonder why they need to pay QF pay rates...they don't!

So Excreta
You joined Pprune yesterday and both your posts are so far are antagonistic. Another Angel. Where’s Justin? An A320Captain with Jetstar is on pretty good money. They will get approximately double what a Qantas 737 Captain gets for a reserve call out. Their pay isn’t at risk like QF737 T&C but then you wouldn’t know this cause you speak from a position of ignorance not having compared either award. Lifestyle at Jetstar is way better to the point where 737 pilot will be doing 8-12 overnights per 28 days and Jetstar none.
Idiot.

Please just ignore exekka and ilk.

Unfortunately they are just basic educated cheap labour Angels cooped up in a basement for 30 cents an hour to post childish cheap shots and slander whilst updating their pinterest and Tinder accounts with selfies.
