There is an prelim ATSB report on it. Sounds like a bit of bad luck with windshear

the report might say it's wind shear, let's hope the data backs it up or the training and the check CAPT might have some explaining.

Even if it isnt windshear in the final analysis, there comes a point in the landing where **** just happens and the other pilot cannot rescue it.

Admittedly lots of things are obvious fairly early and intervention earlier rather than later fixes most things, but in windy, choppy conditions sometimes the arse just drops out of it and any intervention by the capt is difficult if not impossible.

Dont know what runway it was in cbr, but the hangar there hasnt made conditions easier in some wind conditions, not an excuse, just an observation.

CBR easterlies at 10-15kts tend to not be windsheary or get the terminal/hangar bumps.....................

Canberra, rwy35 in particular, is one of those approaches and landings that can bite you in the arse very quickly. Certainly not helped by the multi-storey buildings on the west of the runway when the westerlies kick in.

But even with an Easterly wind there can be enough chop to result in having a bad day if you're complacent, especially if you think that

CBR easterlies at 10-15kts tend to not be windsheary or get the terminal/hangar bumps.
Btw, RightSideUp I'm not having a go at you with the above quote, as I have the same opinion. But I've also landed on rwy35 at CBR enough to know that you can get smashed around, and have experienced both positive and negative windshear in almost any weather conditions.

Like Snakecharma said, just my observations.

DIVOSH!

10-15kn and the associated damage doesn’t sound right. I’ve been in there weekly for the last decade and understand the point in regards to the built up surrounds and associated terrain challenges but this sounds more like loss of control on late final. How that loss of control became, well who knows. The track record of this operation does not fill me with much confidence.

The real questions need to be put to the regulator. It’s all just Reports and Window dressing. No action is ever taken. Depends what logo is on tail right?

There is a lot of damage to the engines and frame, landing was so hard surprised the gear didn't fail.
I bet the guys in Toulouse are glad VA will not be purchasing anymore..

If the damage is as bas as claimed, I'm very surprised that there aren't any piccies floating around. How have VA kept the cameras at bay?

you could be correct. The Albury ATR issue stayed out of the limelight until a few pics appeared...
