If you’re on hold.....give them the middle finger and go somewhere else.
They still think it’s a “priviledge” to fly for QantasLink.

6 vacant commands in Brisbane with no suitable candidates to fill these positions. No other choice but to go overseas and employ qualified pilots.

Latest bunch of saffer's in the latest DH8 ground school are all entering as F/O's.

Most have minimal dash experience by the sounds of it, mainly CRJ's etc.

I’d take the reserve for the 50k payrise.

That's a more accurate description.

I think there may be some strategic plays going on. Whether or not it works though will remain to be seen...

From what I’ve heard the company only have themselves to blame. There are Dash 200/300 FOs who have the seniority and total hours for commands, but lack the company aircraft hours (probably because they are only rostered for 10-20 hours flying per month!). They have successfully bid for the Q400, where they’d fly more hours per month (and achieve the require Dash hours), but the company won’t train them.

Also a bunch that are holding off applying for commands while they are going through the Qantas recruitment process. Seems to be a belief that more valuable pilots (potential Captains and C&T staff) have recently been knocked back to preserve required numbers.

Not saying it’s true, just what I’ve heard.

On a a side note, maybe Qlink need to chat to the people involved in the mass overseas DEC recruitment/training for Skywest/VARA ops a few years ago. There’s a good reason why Virgin aren’t turning to this solution again despite having a worse ATR Pilot shortage than Qlink.

Why doesn’t Qantas offer seniority numbers to those captains or suitable captains at QantasLink so they don’t get disadvantaged by staying a bit longer?

Wouldnt this solve most of their experience and crewing problems?

Last thing we want are more overseas pilots taking our jobs.

I have also heard from those inside that it doesn't help that there is a 5k pay gap between the two fleets.

A common fleet pay between both the classic and the Q400 would solve all the F/O's immediately bidding for the 400 as soon as they can (and therefore resulting in double training and reducing resources for new pilots).

DECs might be a great thing for those in Q-Link at the moment, they just dont know it yet. It will make it easier to be released to mainline and help normalise the link to mainline pathway which is how it ought to be.

Did hear a very thick French sounding accent calling taxi for QLink recently, extremely disheartening knowing so many blokes in GA with the DE minimums who can’t get a look in

A simple solution that would prevent the mass exodus or FOMO factor. Believe it comes from the top and it will never allow “ghosting” seniority numbers.
