RAAF is getting two G550 special mission aircraft, getting a few more with comfy seats would not be too much of a stretch.
Having said that Dassault has demo's 7X in CBR last year to the top brass.....

Either way we are going to end up paying a fortune for them.....

Long standing rumour used to have the two BBJ's being replaced by two ex-QF A330-200 aircraft.

Wouldn't be the first time QF aircraft have been disposed of in this way. (anybody remember the 707's ?)

The other side to that rumour is that QF are trying to get hold of more 330's. So I doubt it.

QF announced a couple of years back that they were not renewing leases on 2 A330s. I vaguely recall the RAAF picking these aircraft up and expanding their tanker fleet to 6?

That's also part of the reason why QF are seeking a couple of extra A330s. The RAAF said 'no' when QF asked could they instead keep the aeroplanes.

January of which year of what decade????????

The "consort" of consultants, snake oil salesmen, arms dealers, green senators, union thugs, HR experts, performance engineers, project managers, software writers, ergonomics technicians, environmentists etal will need to run some interference to stuff up a relatively simple project

Don't forget the Logistics Management Squadrons. They've made doing nothing into an art form.

Is this a renewel as in the heading or a renewal? If the former, replacing a few stair posts shouldn't cost much.

If the BBJs and Challengers worked well, why not negotiate a new lease? Not enough defence jobs generated?

The BBJ doesn't work well that's the problem. Too small, not enough range, too slow. They should have bought a 777/767/330/747 originally.

Aircraft that size will fly from Canberra to anywhere in the world non-stop with no need for crew positioning and various other logistics associated.

One of the biggest issues with selecting aircraft is the 'poor bugger me' attitude of the australian press. Politicians have to be seen flying around in a 210 as anything bigger is to pretentious. Fact is the 707 should have been replaced by a 767 at the time.

Don't buy a 777or A330 for scruffy pollies.
Overseas trips are a small part of requirement.
When they need an aircraft to fly PM on overseas trip, with Canberra Press corp hanging on, charter an A340. Use same charter company, aircraft and crews we get now to do trooping flight for ADF. If the chartered A340 we use for those trooping flights is good and safe enough for ADF members on overseas flights, it is good enough for our polie vultures including the various PM's we have had.
I bet the PM would suddenly find a reason to get a first world airline to do ADF trooping charters.

RFQ excludes international requirement.

This Tender is to replace the domestic requirement only by mid 2019.
International is excluded from the scope.
The A330, excluding 95% of Australia's airfields, probably won't be delivered on this scope.

Rjtrt! What about stuff like secure Comms, etc? I'd like our PM to be able to teleconference and work whilst on a 14 hour flight so your average charter A340 isn't going to cut it.

I've got no problems with an A330 or similar for our PM to travel in around the world.
