No full time positions available to QF SYD based apprentices
So once again QF engineering management have shown the compassion that they are known for and informed the last 20 SYD based AME apprentices that there is no jobs for them in Sydney.
This info was given to them on Xmas eve.
But on the positive side they have secured 10 spots for 10 aspiring AMEs, with a contract labour company to work out of Brisbane.
What a total kick in the guts and then steal your wallet whilst you are bent over in pain.
As we all know SYD is so totally over staffed with all work being acquitted on time every time.
In effect QF have wasted 4 years of these guys lives, the QF AME apprentice is very specific to QF needs and does not cover props, pistons, rotor craft etc. To stay in aviation outside of the airline industry these guys would require further training.
Hopefully these company clowns can see the error of their ways.

Lack of Jobs for SYD Apprentices

Makes you wonder where they think that the future LAMEs and Maintenance staff are going to come from for the longer term. Contractors and the like supplied by half baked agencies are not the big answer. These places seldom get you the people you actually need for your operation, as they are staffed by clerks and other flunkies who generally have no real knowledge or understanding of the Aviation Industry, and just send people off their books in order to clip the ticket for the recruitment fee, irrespective of the relative usefulness of the people that they have supplied.
Some employers have woken up and actually take the trouble to do their own recruiting through their own departmental managers, rather than suffer the poor choice of HR etc.Keep the Faith,

Oh how we have short memories! Its a bit unfair to hire any AMEs in Sydney after QF less than a year ago pushed a few guys out the door from base!
I agree the temp contract thing is crap and QF could of done better than that.

Everything that has happened at QF in the last 5-6 years has been planned by those in power, nothing has happened by chance.
So why 4 years ago would they employ anyone knowing that they will not be offering them a full time position at the completion of their training?
Especially the watered down QF specific training that they have been given, if you are going to to do then train them properly so their chances of employment post QF is better.
I remember what has happened in recent times with people being shown the door, also remember it is still happening with LAMEs. But this is crap. Hopefully QF will assist them in their transition like they have with all other who have been made redundant.

A great shame to see 4 years of specialised training go down the drain, and have the career prospects of these undervalued employees thrown into turmoil.
In another 10 years time this industry will find itself in a very dire predicament regarding the availability of sufficient experienced aircraft mechanics. And 10 years is not a long time in this industry, considering it takes at least 4 years to get a tradesman up and running to AME level. Maybe CASA will come to the aid of the airlines by allowing some type of crash course in aircraft maint engineering.
I hope these poor fellows can pick themselves back up and find a more stable and satisfying career where their hard work and high standards will be appreciated. Best of luck.

They have just finished interviewing the 20 qf apprentices and are going to select only 10 and offer them a 12 to 18 month contract only .
Poor guys are now scrambling for alg contracts so the are at least still in the industry.
Qf wil be in big trouble in a few years when natural retirement get rid of many l/hand and senior lames and no new blood coming through.
