Australian pilots can work for US regionals.
They then plan to bring back people who had training/IOE stopped previously and then bring in new hires/CJO holders.
At the moment they seem positive, but who knows. Have been given no indication that all bets are off just yet. Was told get the VISA and sit tight.

It is only immigrant VISAs that are being targeted. As you can not change the status of the E3 to any sort of permanent status it is not an issue.
Skywest haven't had a pilot issue since they upped their pay and conditions. And they stopped sponsoring new E3 pilots the moment that happened, as locals flocked to them.
Now with the pandemic it is probably a good time and excuse for them to cut the fat and cost of lawyers etc to keep renewing LCAs for a group of pilots they don't really need.
The other airlines may not be in the same position just yet.
At this stage yes. Xjet have started to get their training going again. Currently are retraining people who moved from E145 to E175 back to the E145 and retraining E175 pilots onto E145 starting July.

That's good news. I hope it works out for you.
Climb150, not all politically conservative people are against those who come here legally...just sayin'
Ha yes I know. I am a little surprised as Expressjet is almost certainly going to furlough pilots come Sep 30, so telling people to go get a visa seems silly.
hats off to you sir, I think if xjt email me telling me to get the ball rolling on the visa again I won’t even bother opening the email. Any desire I had to live and work in the U.S. has been completely decimated by its current state of affairs. I cannot even comprehend how they could justify training new hires when they don’t even know what’s going to happen after sep 30, and how long whatever does happen, will last. It was always a gamble to move there chasing jet time and now I would equate it to betting your life savings on one number in roulette. I suppose if you’re out of a job here then you don’t have much to lose by giving it a shot. Good luck with whatever you decide c.c.

Unfortunately dug myself into a hole, where I quit a really great GA job just weeks before the apocalypse. Getting back into flying is probably a pipe dream now for the foreseeable future.
Looking at other options and if this path works out great, but am definitely not rushing over into such an unstable environment. I'll be waiting to see where the chips fall come September before making any decisions.
Thanks for the pep talk plot.. haha!

Just checking to see if anyone has some intel on how the Aussies flying for the now-defunct US regionals have made out. Someone must know somebody who knows somebody.
I saw the question asked on APC about Aussies from ExpressJet but no one seemed to know where they went.

Aussies that had an E3 and employment with a regional that are still operating are still in the States working. Some of them may have been furloughed? But there are still a fair few over there. I don't know of any that may have got a gig with Commutair after Expressjet went tits up? Of all of them, I know of Australians currently working at Piedmont, Skywest and Gojet (furloughed at Gojet)
If you want to look on the pedantic side, companies don't renew visas, employees do.
On the good news side, E-3 visas can now have premium processing, obviating the need to travel to another country for renewal.

With some indications that US regionals are beginning to recruit pilots, are there still Aussies interested in running away from home to join the circus ? Anyone recently tried it to see what'd happen ?
