Not sure I would try returning to Aus during training with SW (not enough time as it is pretty much continuous). Might be an opportunity just before IOE though.

Perhaps to reduce short term living expenses by staying in Oz with friends or family vs moldering in a crashpad for weeks on end waiting for the pipeline to unclog ? Just a guess.

All the Australians I know have never had more than 5-6 days of waiting around. During these times they were always accommodated at company expense.

If you're not familiar with Airline Pilot Central, try their regional forum. It has all the pros & cons (lots of cons since mostly unhappy people post stuff ) Hope you you have a positive experience regardless:

Not that I've heard of. Can't rule out the possibility of a dual citizen or green card but no E3s. I checked with someone who flew there until a year ago and he hadn't heard of any E3s...FWIW.

Ok, thanks. Speaking of green cards, does anyone know which airlines will hire pilots with an EAD, who are in the adjustment of status phase of obtaining a green card?

sigler,

The only way I can think of to get your question authoritatively answered is to contact their recruitment people directly and ask. Here's the website with recruiter contact at the bottom. When I looked at the page, an online chat box opened up automatically asking if they could answer any questions for me. I was tempted to ask but thought I'd best stay out of it:

Recently I asked a Commutair recruiter whether CPP to United applies to E-3 visa holders. They double checked with United HR and the answer was: only if your status in the U.S. changes to the green card holder OR citizen. Otherwise there is NO guaranteed flow for an Aussie pilot. United will not sponsor any visas.

Max T,

That's a worthwhile bit of info for planning purposes. I'd like to hear what other US legacies officially have to say in response to the same question.

Found this exchange re Aussies at US regional, Piedmont. I wonder how many Aussies (E3s) came, made it to the line but have voluntarily left for one reason or another:

“Speaking of interviews, seems you guys are hunting for Australian new hires?
How many do you have?”

"Half Dozen, or a Dozen or so? Some Kiwis too."

“One of the first ones hired recently just returned though. He got tired of the terrible schedules that go along with the low pay.”

Does anyone know if Diploma's can be credited towards an E3 Visa requiring less work experience? I hold 3 Diplomas, a Cert 4 and 5 years working in aviation?

Somewhere I read that it relates to the time taken to get each, 1 Diploma was 18 months full time the others about 5-6 months. All aviation related.

Despite what some people say in this thread, there have been many people issued with a E3 visa without a degree and without extensive industry experience.

TSA interview

Are there any current TSA pilots in here who are willing to discuss the interview? I have a date coming up early next month. Please PM if so.
Cheers

I have read your post a while ago and noticed nobody has properly answered your question(s).

The answer is a big fat NO!

**To get an E3 visa, you need a bachelor degree, in an aviation related field (check with the airline you're applying for), & 3 years, aviation work related experience, as a pilot.
OR 12 years work experience, in the aviation field, as a pilot.

I have checked the University aviation degrees on offer, around the country, and they are all VIRTUALLY integrated, WITH a flying training course.

For a person that HASN'T got an aviation bachelor degree, BUT is working in the aviation industry, as a pilot (charter or instructor), the ONLY ONLINE degree, that I CAN SEE, that's available to study, is at the University of Central Qld/Online/Bachelor of Aviation (Flight Operations) Degree.

**It's a 3 years full time course, or 6 years part-time, or you could possibly do,year 1 full time, year's 2 and 3 part-time, over 4 years.
It looks like a great course, have to know, some, so called aviation physics, the first year, year 2 is, CPL subjects, year 3, ATPL subjects & Multi Crew Co-Op.

To do the above, it will cost, & you have to have the MOTIVATION & APPETITE, to study the PPL/CPL/ATPL/subjects & exams AGAIN.
Credit is given to PPL BAK/IR qualifications, and OTHER subjects passed over 80 per cent (how i read things).

ALL the US regionals are advertising for OZ pilots that are E3 ELIGIBLE.

If a PERSON apply's for an E3 visa, WITHOUT, the degree & 3 years experience, OR WITHOUT, 12 years aviation experience, THEN, THEY, are putting themselves in a difficult position OR, THEY are rolling the dice & paying the price.

I know what i would do.

I gamble, BUT wouldn't take a gamble on the E3, IF i didn't qualify.
Others have gambled & won!!!
