Just In: Qantas flight forced to turn back to Darwin twice
A Qantas flight heading from Darwin to Sydney has twice been forced to return partway through its journey after a warning light spooked the pilot.
Fire crews were on standby at Darwin International Airport as the plane made an unscheduled landing two times before the flight was cancelled.
QF843 initially left Darwin at 1:50pm (ACST) but was forced to return partway through its journey to Sydney.
A Qantas spokeswoman said the plane returned to Darwin because of a warning light the pilot "did not like".
After its return, the plane took off about five hours later before again returning to Darwin.
Passengers on board the flight have been given accommodation in Darwin until they can be put on a new flight.

Turns out it was the red "Toilet Occupied" light came on, and the pilot had taken on a bad seafood special the night before. Had to land and use the terminal's loo.
It doesn't say whether the light was illuminated or not, just that he didn't like it - wrong place for cockpit ergonomics perhaps, or maybe it didn't come on quickly enough when tested?
The 'spooked' thing is a bit much too - he's going to need some refresher training, being led back into the cockpit gently by a HR expert saying "Come on big fella, it's OK, it's just a warning light - you can do it!"

I suspect its more QANTAS released a pretty silly statement, the journalist has thought well lets make you really look like a bunch of twits if your gonna release that garbage to us.

Please tell me how I can easily spot and avoid a "spooked pilot".
Would he/she be the one with large rolling eyes, surrounded by superiors trying to fit him/her with blinkers??
What normally happens when a pilot is "spooked"??
Does he/she jump up out of their seat and thrash around in the cockpit, trying to get away from the unrecogniseable scary thing that is spooking him/her??
What does this do for CRM?? I trust the co-pilot doesn't get spooked too, when the pilot gets spooked - that could get really scary.

I heard it was the cockpit lighting and the Captain didn't like it as it was keeping them awake

I'm a bit worried about this, how did it all end, did they replace the light with one that the pilot liked? Maybe they found a pilot who was quite fond of the light? We the travelling public have the right to know!!!!

Must admit that there have been a few lights I didn`t like.
Such as the time Mr Policeman shined his torch into my Car enterior when I was........(ahem) otherwise occupied....
We got away with it though.
