In case it isn't clear enough (and it is)...

Same aircraft, same VAI AOC, same pilots who will fly the 3 repainted aircraft and the other 22 VAI 737s. Very nearly the same schedule.TT cabin crew are trained to VAI standards for EPs etc. Just as VAA cabin crew can operate on VAI 737s the TT cabin crew can operate on both AOCs.

As for what the 3 repainted aircraft do when they're not on those Bali flights I do not know.

morno, I don't think you giving it enough thought. Why does it have to be current Virgin drivers ? Plenty of 737 drivers looking for extra work, who would probably work for lot less than VA 738 drivers.

I would hazard a guess that there are some AOC implications in all this and that it probably has to be done on the VA AOC. There's another thread that raises a few interesting questions on all this.

so it looks like the VA drivers on TT flights will be new hires, at lower rates of pay.

BNA320 clearly you like a wind up.

How do you propose that they hire new VA pilots on a lower wage? Under what industrial agreement and what AOC.

They could potentially be VANZ pilots on kiwi wages, which is a lower wage than the Aussie pilots, but I think that this would be problematic industrially. Though nothing would surprise me these days.

As for new hires, I just can't see it - hiring and training a new bunch of guys to fly those three aeroplanes would be more expensive than using the existing crews and destroy any economies of scale. But again nothing would surprise me

One can't be as consistently wrong and impervious to correction as BNEA320 without it being deliberate stirring.*

I shall not feed that troll any further.

BNEA320,

Both unions (AFAP and VIPA) have provided updates to their members since the announcement and the aircraft will be crewed by the current VAI B737 under the terms of their current EBA. There will be NO NEW HIRES on LOWER PAY.

Perhaps it's time for one of the moderators to delete BNEA320's posts as they seem unable to understand the facts about this set up.

Why do we even care if BNEA320 gets it?

The only people it affects is the Virgin pilots. They know what's going on because the company has told them. They know the hiring situation, because they're the ones that interview and hire.

They've still got jobs, no redundancies, they're still flying Bali.

Everyone's happy. Who gives a to$$ about some anorak in Brisbane....?

Each of his/her posts just serves to show how ignorant they are...

One simple statement.

My Bali clients who use Virgin - not impressed.

My friends at Garuda - happy.

Perception of an Airline is worth a lot of dollars.

Best all

Would your client rather that Virgin lose money EWL?

Garuda clients aren't happy?? Garuda clients wouldn't know how to spell 'happy'!

I'd guess that the true motivation for your post is that travel-agents-who-miss-out-on-commission aren't happy!

In the end, Garuda clients don't matter a damn, travel agents don't matter (judging by my recent - and first ever - experience using them, they're fast becoming an irrelevance), and BNEA320 certainly doesn't matter.

The only thing that will matter is to see how many price-sensitive passengers take up the offer of a new operator on the route.

Oh...the other thing that will matter is the mood of a certain Volcano in the vicinity of Bali.

Garuda...

I was talking to a travel agent recently who asked me why some airlines cancel & others keep flying during things like "volcanic ash" crises.

I explained risk assessments, risk tolerance, customer care, safety etc

The response was that the agency had asked their Garuda contact why it kept flying to Bali when other airlines were cancelling. The answer to the travel agent? Garuda has "ash filters" so it's all ok.

I've asked my wider family to avoid Garuda in future if at all possible.

If Virgin crews are being used with reconfigured Virgin 737s, what's the point of a repaint?

Brand differentiation, Ken. You know, like how after Jetstar came along, if you bought a QF ticket, you actually flew on QF. Oh, wait..

Ken B exactly. Something is up. Most people know VA controls TT now, so why go thru the whole exercise of repainting aircraft or maybe it'll be cheaper decals?

Virgin had issues few years ago when they launched Bali, they used the "Pacific Blue" branding as it was their international arm, but Indonesian Authorities wouldn't have it. They had to modify the livery to include the Virgin Blue brand.

There are advantages of having your aircraft in the group predominantly white...
