Services up and running, Went to the airport at Wynyard to take some photos and to look at their operations. They've got Sharp Airlines VH-SEZ with Free Spirit titles at the rear of the aircraft.

Word on the street is that they ceased operating Wednesday night.

A large amount of money still owing to a few airport owners.

The only thing they've ceased is the service to wynyard. According to the advocate newspaper they've stopped services to and from Wynyard airport from May 1st blaming high landing fees (more than likely low passengers numbers). The airline said they would continue to serve Merimbula and plan to expand Victorian services aswell and starting services into NSW sooner rather then later. No surprise here coming from a local at Wynyard they nearly always had about 6 inbound passengers and 3 outbound during my trips to the airport, the most I seen was 13. Then you look at Rex they nearly always have at least 20 passengers each way.

Yeah - well........

Ill conceived with 2 months less than optimal lead time and flying from Wynyard to "oh-really?" a minimum of 25% of the traffic off this rock is oncarriage and with no through fare agreements you aint getting that traffic. The potential traffic was never there.

At the peak East West and Ansett operated on average 6 48 to 52 seat F27s out of the port and both struggled even with oncarriage. The coprporate base is long gone. No Pulp Mill, Acid Plant gone as is Tioxide (Titanium pigment factory) so a low socio-economic environment.

Rex are doing a great job servicing Wynyard and now the fly is out of the ointment, not that they would have been done much damage.

Unfortunately arriving at MEB is and was always going to be arriving in a transport black hole. it has been years since the tram ran right to the terminal.

My sympathies are with the crew who will likely be struggling to get paid what is due, along with the carriers who leased them aeroplanes. these things are never good things.

The local authorities may allegedly charge too much but if you don't want to pay then don't use the service.

Bizjets mark 2.

Best all.

yes they disposed of the b1900 in October or November last year. They're leasing Sharp airlines aircraft with one of them (VH-SEZ) having free spirit titles on it. Cheers.

So really when you boil it all down, Roman is just a contracted booking agent for Sharp airlines as Free Spirit is not in possession of the two main ingredients required for an airline. An AOC and an aircraft. Does one need a travel agents licence and security bond for this type of activity.

That's being a bit unkind - I think he leases the aircraft from Sharp but takes all the commercial risk himself.

The interesting question is whether there are any growth opportunities from Essendon in the same way that FlyCorporate seem to have been building up a network out of Brisbane into northern NSW.

Well picked up Stooge but at least in Tasmania and I am pretty sure the rest of Australia is the same no licence is required any longer. There is ATAS which is an accreditation scheme through AFTA which is voluntary and just a money grab. We are not affiliated with it as we are full IATA and are audited by them and have guarantees in place.

So there are no restriction and no watchdog.

Brave new World!!

Best regards

No not that harsh really dijical. In order to be recognized as an airline one really should at least have an AOC and there is absolutely no way Roman would ever be given an AOC. So really he is just a contractor to Sharp Airlines.

It has been tried once before unsuccessfully. He doesn't have the infrastructure, knowledge, cash, business ethic, and most importantly is not willing to part with the cash required. An RPT AOC or any AOC for that matter is a privileged and it comes with certain responsibilities and the need for key personnel. These peops dont come cheap. Plus where is he going to get an aircraft from (one that he thinks he can get on the cheap). He wasn't able to furnish the operating costs on a 1900 C. This is just a small incite into why I said what I said previously dijical. All he has successfully done is flush someones capital down the toilet solely for his own selfish hatred of REX.
