Qantas Fleet Order Speculation
Singapore - Mumbai
That 30 inch pitch in economy (minus the inch or two taken up by the magazine pocket) should be a real selling point! How on Earth will Singapore Airlines compete!? They'd be shakin' in their boots I tells ya!
Lets not get started on that Premium Econom… ahem, 'Business' Class.
In all seriousness, if true, it'd be great news (expansion, yahoo!). But for crying out loud, stick a 330 on it (and Ph - Sin) and get the marketing team to fill it up instead of pi$$ farting around with Miranda Kerr and co.
Leave the 73's to the domestic runs where the competition isn't going to beat you up with multiple flights a day using 777's and A380's.

I guess it might work. (737 on SIN-BOM)
The current 737 flight comes in from Perth in the evening, so if the departure ex SIN times in with transit pax from SYD/MEL/BNE, then filling it shouldn't be too hard. Then do the same in reverse. Not sure what the yields would be like though.
QF currently codeshare with Jet Airways on the route and they use a 738, so what's the difference? Surely the QF product is an improvement on that!

That's the "other" airline GG.
The QF 737 mob declared certain patterns too fatiguing to be safe, only to be picked up by JQ doing the exact same flights. But apparently they operate to the same safety levels as QF according to the press releases.

Derfred-Correction ATSB recommended varying the patterns and slipping the crew in Canberra. As for the other mob, pilots need to report fatigue more, but they won't and as we have seen if you are involved in a incident or worse still accident it is too late then to claim that you are fatigued.
Nunc est bibendum
I understand that the full report never saw the light of day. I thought though that some of the findings were still implemented given the obviousness of the issues raised. Multi sector red eyes I thought was one of the issues raised.
The scuttlebut i heard about it was several audit reports on per cgk per 2 crew BoC and on the 'extra sector' that was getting tagged onto red eyes at the time. Was nice to have a few cgk slips back then
8 B787's announced, 4FY18 and 4FY19. It's a start, and a net fleet increase (replacing 5B747's).

News just in!
Qantas is to acquire 8 787-9 aircraft beginning delivery from 2017 to replace 5 of the oldest 744s.
Good news for the Group, should help the morale of the troops on the front line.

More interesting is how the 8 is made up.
- 5 from Group options
- 3 converted from 787-8 orders that were destined for Jetstar Intl
So sometime between July-December 2017 for #1.
Interesting map on pg.37 of the main presentation.
Potential new destinations of Moscow, Addis Abbaba, Seattle, Mexico City
(** as only to demonstrate range - but I suspect there is some reason these particular airports got added)
